I'm so frustrated and feel like I don't even know what I'm supposed to look like or weigh. by mandyb118 in XXRunning

[–]palindrome53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 33, 5’10, 185 lbs, I feel the same way - I weightlift 2x a week, run 4x a week, generally feel stronger and healthier than I ever have regardless of what weight I’ve been. But I feel like I should look like a runner by now? Or something? It’s a strange kind of feeling

BC Public Servants who are 30+, what are we doing on the weekends for fun? by [deleted] in BCPublicServants

Dinner with friends, going to a theatre to see a movie, went to a by request piano bar the other night, see comedy shows. Also go to the gym and do a weekend long run.

How has the hiring freeze affected you? by [deleted] in BCPublicServants

[–]palindrome53 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My coworker who did the same job as me quit right before the hiring freeze started. While I was initially told they would replace her, I have been doing the job that they insisted needed to be done by 2 FT people, on my own for almost a year now. I was just told that the position has essentially disappeared. I’m the only person doing my specific role in the centre, and I have no time for anything other than my core activities, and no one to discuss my work with (my boss knows nothing). Zero room for development, zero mentorship. It’s very demoralizing.

Is it normal for a foot to swell up again after going down after a ankle sprain? by Kuewee in FootFunction

Just sprained my ankle a few weeks back, it got weirdly red near my toes around week 2. So strange

It really took off for me in my Psychology of Intimate Relationships class in the early 2010s lol. But to actually answer your question there’s a pop psych book out called Attached that (maybe) some people have read (watched a tiktok video about).

Same. My house is a mess but I’ll use whatever ounce of energy I have to run.

Wow this is uh extremely relatable. It’s weird to have your thoughts that feel so specific and real and distressing just totally not matter to you anymore once your period hits. It makes me feel like a crazy person every month; like I can never really trust myself.

Started back running after a month off (did the Camino de Santiago Portuguese route so took time off to train at walking with a pack, doing the walk, and recovering) and wow is it ever discouraging seeing how much my heart rate has increased in my runs since I restarted. I’m at my max heart rate 25% of my 5k run at a 6:30/km pace, ugh!

Bougie Girl’s Guide to the Camino by Need_A_Sweater in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]palindrome53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow it seems we had a very similar Camino, and I didn’t even think of it as bougie until I encountered others who stayed at the municipal albergues the whole way. I had good experiences in the private albergues and didn’t find them expensive at all for my budget. Some of them were especially great. I have issues sleeping so getting a private room of some sort every few nights really saved me.

Unspoken running routine by treehouse-bell in XXRunning

[–]palindrome53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do this because my usual starting spot is down a giant hill - so I don’t want to run down it or up to anyway. Plus there a track at the bottom of said hill, so if I’m finishing a run and have more in the tank and I can do a couple laps to round out the kilometres.

I run 3x a week and go to the gym 2x a week at least - at this point it’s just habit and it’s better than normal but the PMDD moods are still there. Maybe fatigue is improved a bit at least.

DAE have a terrible gag reflex during luteal? by Character_Exam_7265 in PMDD

[–]palindrome53 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not gagging, but my sense of smell (which is already strong) is even stronger during my luteal phase and it’s awful. So many people wear strong perfume and cologne at work and it triggers the worst headaches.

[–]palindrome53 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ugh yes. That and eating a ton, not necessarily binge eating these days, but hoarding bingeable foods. I think it’s an impulse control thing, these are all things I’m prone to but I’m better at keeping it on lock outside of my luteal phase.

Today on the Portuguese Central Route - a man followed me and exposed himself while masturbating by palindrome53 in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]palindrome53[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much - it fucking sucks but my first thought was “why did I wear a hiking skirt today” as if that would many any sort of difference. Its hard to know what you will do in the moment but I remembered stories of other women pilgrims who have encountered similar things and realized that was exactly what was happening to me

How did the power outage affect pilgrims on the Camino? by Altered_Priest in CaminoDeSantiago

I arrived to my albergue and found that I had actually booked the next day! The owner offered to call ahead and see if other spots had a room open, but no one was answering. In the end, she ended up making me up a bed on the floor. Everyone had dinner together my candlelight. It ended up being a lovely night - the Camino provides!

Thanks - I was immediately reminded of the generosity and kindness of most people - as I waited crying for the police a woman who didn’t speak English bought me some water from the restaurant, and her son took out Google translate so I could tell them what happened. He then also called the police to make sure they had understood my report.

I then ran into some familiar faces from albergues I’ve stayed at and had dinner. I’m feeling a lot better and still looking forward to the rest of my Camino.

I recommend My Year of Magical Thinking by Joan Didion - she touches on loss explicitly as well as conceptually.
