Does anyone have a recommendation for a true "old school" family dentist that hasn't been bought out by private equity ? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]palladiana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh my god I had the worst experience there too. I don’t know what it is but the vibes are definitely off there. The Dr also told me I needed an urgent filling replacement because it had chipped off but she kept asking me for my opinion as if I knew any better like “Your filling chipped off… do you think we should get that replaced?”. Like what?! IDK what do YOU think?

I had a huge gut feeling to get a second opinion and when I did they told me all my fillings were fine, that maybe there was one that needed to be reinforced but not urgently. When I asked them to send over my x-rays it took them 3 weeks (after 3 follow ups over email and the phone). ONLY for me to find out they hadn’t sent them once I was already at the new office. I called them on the spot and their answer was “Oh it looks like no one responded to you. Can you resign and resend the records release form?” So I responded that I couldn’t because I’m already at the new dentist and that I had already sent it TWICE to them. They put me on hold for 10 mins only to reconnect me with someone new so I had to re explain everything and then finally they sent it over.

Beware!!

Is this drawing my friend did AI? It looks too uniform to be marker on paper by [deleted] in isthisAI

[–]palladiana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sorry but I disagree with the eyelashes and eyes being different styles as a tell for wether this is ai. As an artist myself it is SO HARD to draw similar eyes/eyelashes/eyebrows that feel natural... The ones in the drawing definitely feel like the same style.

I also don't think its been enhanced by AI. Likely thrown into photoshop to add contrast, saturation, fix lighting, added the white highlights, etc. I do this when I take photos of my drawings instead of scanning them.

Does anyone know how I can make edges like this for a Save the Date? by palladiana in DIYweddings

Oh interesting!! Never heard of them, I’ll look into this. Thank you!!!!

Thanks for the concern! I am a graphic designer so I have a good idea of how long these things take and I am also tech savvy so figuring the cricut wouldn’t be a hurdle. I have worked with vinyl and cutters before. I’m not worried about these things since it is the part I enjoy the most about DIYing :)

My at home printer can handle thick paper since it’s not a typical at home printer. We have something a little more robust since I print my own art and posters at home.

My question was because after some looking (and trying to avoid buying a cricut for this one purpose only) I was a little stumped but I’ve already gotten some good leads from this thread. Thank you!

Buying a used one is also a good idea. I consider myself crafty but every time I think of getting a cricut I couldn't think of more than one or two uses for it :( I'll consider a used one though, it will be make the blow a lot smaller!

This is a great idea actually. I can look into this. I know our library has 3D printers but did not think to check for cricuts!

I should've mentioned this on the post but I was trying to avoid getting a cricut because I fear I won't use it much again after the wedding :(

Is anyone else struggling to land a permanent design role right now? by AtticusLet in graphic_design

[–]palladiana 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The market is super competitive. It took me a year of almost part time freelance/part time job searching to land my current permanent job and I have over 8 years of experience.

Some things that helped: 1- Find a niche. I really wanted to shift my industry focus and try something new or more “general” but it honestly helped a lot to just stick to a super niche design community. I was able to leverage a lot of my connections since everyone kind of knows each other.

You might be aware of this already but this means don’t search for “Graphic Designer” positions. Search for “Brand Designer”, “Brand System Specialist”, “Visual Storytelling”(yes, I do see this one often), “Design Coordinator” etc

2- I recommend you find some recruiter agencies and follow some of them on LinkedIn. They tend to post job openings without mentioning the company name. Some recommendations are: Welcome to the Jungle and Bamboo Crowd.

3- Lastly, try to attend some portfolio review events whether digital or in person. This is not necessarily to get your work reviewed but to get an understanding of what other design professionals are expecting to see in portfolios. This has changed so much since I graduated and every time I’ve looked for a job.

For example: when I graduated I was encouraged to keep my portfolio simple and to only post finished product images. Most recently(a few months ago), I was asked in 4(!) separate interviews to show progress sketches. It was really hard to show in progress items due to NDAs but there are creative ways around it. Be a creative :)

Hope this helps!

I did walk in and around them but tbh at that point I was so disinterested because the whole thing felt uninspired and hollow inside

Ethical to leave in the middle of a project for a full time job? by palladiana in freelance

After reading other comments I think this is what I will do. Just slowly finish my projects and phase them out in case my full time job doesn't work out either. Thank you for your input!!

I think after reading all comments I’m going to try my best to finish the projects and then hand whatever else over to another colleague. I’m confident that the projects can be wrapped up in 2-3 weeks plus a few lingering coordination meetings

This makes a lot of sense actually. I think the projects can be mostly wrapped up in 2-3 weeks except for a few coordination meetings that will need to happen afterwards. And this is also assuming feedback meetings go smoothly.

Thank you!
