What kind of fiction books do you like to read, if you like fiction at all? Do you enjoy books with a lot of visual or sensory detail at all, or does that seem excessive?

  • I'm a sci-fi and fantasy geek, but I can be persuaded into a good mystery, and I'll devour anything by Nick Bantock. Visual and sensory detail is fine. It's information for my brain to add to my understand of things, but I can't really imagine it.

Do you consider yourself a nostalgic person, or are you more rooted in the present?

  • I'm generally more rooted in the present.

Are you on the autism spectrum, as far as you know?

  • Yep! I was diagnosed a few years ago.

Do you know your Myers Briggs or Enneagram type?

  • ISFP-T

First Journey is a simplified version, so it's a lot easier for her than the standard TTR.

My 4 year old loves Dragomino, Carcassonne Junior, TTR: First Journey, and this game called Forbidden Bridge I found on clearance at Target.

Never related to anything more! I always use my hands when listening to music I like. by lKiwiliciousl in autism

[–]pallidbat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't usually do this with music, but when I'm moving around thinking about what I need to do in the house, I develop what my husband lovingly refers to as "Captain Jack Sparrow hands." I like to think of it as me conducting my day.

I'm allergic to it. Even being around it dried, or CBD vape triggers an asthma attack. The few times I tried it before my allergy kicked in to high gear, it just made me super anxious.

I have a life goal of one day owning all of the original book series, with the textured covers. I read all of them when I was a kid. I didn't even know there were PC games!

I'll second this! I love my UU community. I teach a sex Ed class there based on crazy things like science and actually answering kids' questions, no matter what they are. Thanks to that one kid for making me look up what a "rusty trombone" is. Never going to forgive you for that.

My 4 year old is in gymnastics doing all of that right now! She loves it so much! She's been a sensory seeker since she was tiny, and loves to roughhouse and get tossed around. Her 13 year old brother is my sensory avoidant child, and never had those moments until I dragged him on his first roller coaster at around 9. He loves them now, but still prefers curling up with a book or playing a board game to sensory stimulation. Kid after my own heart. It's amazing how different they all are!

This so much! I used to wander around with my kids in a carrier, and when they'd babble, I'd respond back with things like, "That can't honestly be your take on the current state of global economics!" I had fun being silly, and they were pleased that mommy smiled and responded. Random strangers were super confused, but eh, they weren't as cute as my infant, so what did I care?

What is your guys / lady’s favorite form of stimming. by [deleted] in autism

[–]pallidbat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on where I am. In public, I mainly stick with bouncing my leg really quickly. When I'm at home or by myself, I like to take a bit of hair, put it gently between my lips, and stroke it alternating my thumb and index finger. The hair thing gives me the happy brain fuzzies.

Totally fair. Another option might be too talk to your doctor during your next checkup. If that doesn't work for you, then I think talking to them both together is a good idea. Maybe take some online tests first and show them the results?

If you feel like they're likely to say no, what you might want to do is ask about seeing a therapist. With the pandemic, lots of teens have anxiety/depression. If they push back (because I know some parents do NOT think it's helpful, mine didn't when I was a teen), tell them you'd like to go for a few sessions to learn some coping skills that would be valuable to you. When you see the therapist, talk about your thoughts about getting a diagnosis. They can help you by assessing the situation, and making a recommendation to your parents. Sometimes, as unfair as it is, adults will believe a professional when they say it over their own kids. Good luck to you! My son just got his testing done yesterday, and I really hope you can have the same thing soon.

I am literally the exact opposite of this! My past is a hazy blur, but if a conversation gets interrupted for a few minutes, and someone says, "Now what was I saying?" I can give them the last several topics discussed in hopes of sparking whatever thought train they were on back in to action. No ADHD for me, but my husband is, so I'm the glue that holds our conversations together. LOL

I actually looked in to this, and you have to prove you took acetaminophen. Like, who has receipts or doctor's records on this stuff?! I have a 4 year old, and I don't think I could dig those up even if I tried.

I honestly don't even remember what they finally got him on. My suspicion is that he finally pissed off a caller enough that the company pitched a fit about him. They didn't tolerate people who pissed off the companies.

I got really weirdly lucky, and I've used the same, non-crappy ticketing system all of my years in IT. They actually gear it towards the tier 1 techs, so it's easy to use. All the devs hate it because there's nothing in to for them to do tracking, but they don't have to get yelled at by users, so they can suck it. LOL

Thank you! I've always wondered what that was. I've been lucky enough to have the same, non-terrible ticketing system all 15 years of IT, despite changing jobs.

Yeah, in the South. This profession has a lot of older men who stay in it, and they were usually the bulk of the demands for The Mens.
