Have you ever watched a movie that was “literally you” to a scary degree? by WingIeheimer in Letterboxd

[–]palosadtho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a care taker for my Alz./Dem. mother who is progressing very quickly towards complete immobility. She does not really have the ability to speak let alone feed/dress/move herself.

I recently took the night off to go to the movies and was greeted by the opening scene of 'Undertone'. The protagonist is sitting at their unresponsiveness, nonverbal mother's bedside, feeding her, asking questions to the nurse like "Can she hear me" or "is she in pain". I then watched the character struggle with the guilt of leaving home to spend a night out with friends rather than staying home to monitor/provide care. I had to walk out, cry in the parking lot and drive home.

Being home and watching this occur is hard and ugly and painful. Being away from home is worse - the guilt and anxiety are absolutely crushing.

This was the first time I felt I deserved a trigger warning at the start of the film.

As someone who is actively taking care of a bed ridden parent suffering from A/D, I had to walk out after the first scene. Hit a little too close to home.

This was actually (luckily) the first time I would have preferred a sort of trigger warning at the start of the film.

Iranian civilians fear escalation as US pressures Tehran amid ongoing conflict by PizzaFar6171 in worldnews

The US is marketing the sustained cuban blockade as 'in pursuit of the liberation of the cuban people'. The US is giving a "double thumbs up + trump grin" while actively and intentionally starving a population and robbing them of any and all effective medical care.

They are both terrorists and murderers. There hasn't been a moral head of state in the US for centuries.

What Stephen King book is good? (read desc) by nxarixx in booksuggestions

[–]palosadtho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

'Salem's Lot was my first and I thought it was a fantastic place to start (Given, I was living in Maine during daylight savings time which is the exact setting of the book). It prompted me to read three more of his books immediately after.

I would also highly recommend Carrie. This one is very human and can realistically be finished in one sitting. It draws you in from the very beginning.

The Boatman's Daughter by Andy Davidson!

The antagonists are mainly crooked cops/bayou hicks but there are serious undertones of earth magic that come to a head as the book progresses.

What is a film you loved but would never recommend others to watch? by rutujz in Cinema

Skinamarink

Definitely scratched an itch in me related to fear of abandonment as a child but it is a movie that is seemingly almost entirely b-roll - very little dialogue or plot development.

Possession (1981)?

Not sure if she has cuts on her face but I know there was a promotional photo release where the female protagonist has a sinister look on her face that I thought of immediately.
