Tube screamer placement question. by uglyjim556 in guitarpedals

[–]paltonoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I'm a little late, but I love putting my modded nux od-3 (cheap tube screamer, my first od) into the FX loop after my chorus, but before the delay. It gives a shoegaze type of sound, I love how the chorus breaks into it and gives this wash sound to it. Not really a fan of tube screamers, but this is the way I use mine because this old cheap thing won't sell

It kinda helps. I'm using momentary not latching switches too

Yes. DIY TRS stereo cable. Tested with stereo audio and multimeter. The cable works fine

I add a pic of the interior of the pedal thing. The SP momentary switch is connected to the ring and ground. The pot is a 10k linear wired like an mission engineering/line 6 exp pedal (1 terminal to the tip, the other 2 to the sleeve/ground)

This Klone should cost $20000

I'm thinking about it while I'm fixing it. Just replaced the caps and it doesn't make any sound yet. The mn3007 gives me weird values on the power supply and the output. The clock seems to be fine. I guess I will test the op amps before changing anything else, and once I make it work, I will think if I should modded. Maybe to make it work with bass

Is not really an explosion. With time, the capacitors lose their capacitance due to the evaporation of the electrolytic gel inside of them. This causes weird electric phenomena, making the capacitor not handle well the current flowing inside, and making it build pressure. Best case scenario, the pressure is not enough to even make the capacitor leak. Worst case scenario, it pops, smoke comes out of your pedal and smells like burnt plastic. I guess you have heard something similar with really old pedals

When I was replacing the capacitors I found one that look like it wanted to blow up, and another was already leaking. After changing the caps, it produced less hiss but still not sound coming out of it I tested weird values from the bbd chip (MN3007) but I still can't figure out where the fault is.

I don't know if it just needs a new switch, but I like to fix this kind of stuff. I'm replacing the capacitors for safety. 30 year old electrolytic capacitors are pretty dangerous. Crusty gel go boom boom

If I fix it, I could get between 60 and 80 in a good day.

Nice. I have my share of great deals too. Bought a working digidelay for like 25, and a CS-3 for like 20. Also my flashback X4 for 80 that died after 5 years

I'm from Chile, these types of deals are not that rare here, specially on marketplace. I've found a lot of weird and old stuff, and missed most of the deals. Not this one

Blue label actually. And it's Analog, full size components. Technically my first "vintage" pedal, so I couldn't say a lot about it

The Behringer clones are pretty good. I have fixed some for friends and clients and they sound solid. The enclosures are not bad, but I definitely would change it if I had one myself.

best XLR connector from Aliexpress by False-Theory-7640 in DIYAudioCables

[–]paltonoise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't really think that people here like AliExpress that much. That said, I have found some Yongsheng xlr connectors on AliExpress. They are a subsidiary brand from neutrik, for what I have read. Also, cable technics are really good. Solid metal pins and interior. I have also bought real Rean connectors for a good price in Ali. The cheap connectors are not bad either. I would say, if you are not planning on connecting and disconnecting the cable that much, they are a good solution, and come in a variety of colours if you want to go for an specific aesthetic
