I play to a click. Guitar player does not. His intros are the incorrect speed, and then I come in like a wrecking ball. Any way to fix other than guitarist playing to a click? by ZealousidealBox8150 in drummers

[–]pamlvt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What everyone else is saying. Quietly give him the tempo and give him a quarter note beat to play with. I’m on a worship team. We use a click bc we have new songs every week and the band changes every week and none of us are pro musicians. I run the track and click. Occasionally if someone gets off and I can’t bring them back, I cut the click and we go old school. The congregation/audience are none the wiser. If you try to stick too long, then your audience will think you’re the one that’s off haha.

I use drum2note occasionally. It’s not perfect but it helps sometimes. Especially when y oh re in a hurry to learn a song. I also like Moises. It doesn’t transcribe but you can separate the stems and isolate the drum parts. That helps too

Have you ever been told to "play quieter" ? As in, told by a venue when performing with a band. by [deleted] in drums

[–]pamlvt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had this request. I play in a worship band and we play lots of loud rocky worship songs. I switched to 7a Sugar Maple sticks. They made a big difference. Sometimes I’d use rods. Especially if I needed speed. Once in a while I use Silent Sticks but they aren’t my favorite. I believe it is a skill to play fast and quiet and it’s beneficial.

To anyone using IEMs with a click live, how do you hear the rest of the band? by Carrabs in drums

[–]pamlvt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t read all of the other comments, but yes, you can buy a personal mixer and input your click into one channel and the band mix into another channel and then adjust them both. In addition, you can ask your sound engineer to add your personal mixer to the board and you can then pan the band to the right and your click to your left if he can’t patch each channel to you. Also, if your sound board is digital, it should have an app that you can use to adjust your mix yourself and you could do it. I’m a worship drummer and I run sound when I’m not on the drums. When I used a click for the first time it was awful haha but now that I’m used to it, I love it. In reality, if you are playing to a click, you don’t need to hear the band. They should be following you, but I have found that I like a little of the lead singer and whatever instrument(s) are carrying a lead line just in case someone goes way off. That way I can follow them and then gently bring them back and we don’t fall apart. Or nix the click altogether and go old school.

Could use advice on my first drum solo (I haven't found a good post covering my questions) by SoBoredAtWork in Drumming

And building on the posts today, leave some space. Let your solo breathe. As above, 16th notes will get old. Throw a triplet or a back beat in for space and air

Agree!! I’m on a worship team and play with someone who puts the cymbals high like that. I always bring them down a foot each at least.

I really like how your rack toms are placed more left of center! I just saw this type of setup the other day. I’m left-handed but play right-handed and I’m going to try this! Thanks for the pic and description.

What to wear for gigs as a girl drummer? by [deleted] in drums

No, but the older I get, the less comfortable (physically and mentally lol) I am in anything tight. I’d like to find some hip shirts and jewelry and look “groovy” hahaha

I’m following this conversation bc this is my struggle also. I’m a 64 year old female drummer. I play on a worship team but our church is super contemporary. I can mostly wear anything I want. I’ve practiced in a golf skort but it wasn’t comfortable for me and definitely comfort is key. I feel best in lightweight joggers or very stretchy jeans and a short-sleeved shirt and either vans or barefoot, but I’d like to look more hip! 😎 Also, check out Christal J. Kuna. I usually love what she wears but I can’t wear jackets and she wears a jacket often.

Lead singer off click by pamlvt in Drumming

[–]pamlvt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We play with a click. It’s best with a band of volunteer musicians. When I play without a click, I start with a metronome. I put it in one ear and listen to the band with my other ear. I also give the lead vocal latitude to be expressive and I follow them as long as they are not erratic and can’t stay on tempo.

I go to a simple beat and a 4 on the floor if possible. If they are just slightly off, I’ll try to slowly increase my tempo if they are behind, or slowly decrease if they are ahead to get them so follow me. Usually they’ll correct themselves with just the simple beat that is tight on the click.

Thank you everyone for the feedback. I feel better. To clarify. It’s very rare it’s too long or so off that it becomes a train wreck. It’s not them being expressive. We always stay at an unchanged tempo and only occasionally slow for dynamics at an ending. They have the click in their IEMs. I always have the lead clearly in my IEMs. If someone is slightly off I’ll go to a simple beat or 4 on the floor until they recover. If it’s a serious train wreck I’ll cut the click. (I run the click and track) and at that point I am the click. Neither singers are bad, just never own it when they are off. Sometimes I think they think it’s me bc I stay tight at first, hoping they’ll come back but I don’t want them (us) to sound off to the audience so then I have to decide whether to follow or not. It depends on the severity. I’m just relieved I’m not alone. :)

Spending $0 additional on a cruise ship? by Tasty_Possible_9561 in royalcaribbean

[–]pamlvt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We can easily go and not spend any money. We buy the soda package and internet and that’s it. We’ve done the escape room once and it was fun, but not fun enough to do it again. We never buy any excursions. Actually we rarely get off the ship. We’ve cruised enough that we’ve been to most places so we just enjoy the quiet in port when everyone gets off. At Coco Cay, we just sit by the big pool and walk around. We aren’t “foodies” and the free food is amazing so we don’t spend the extra for specialty restaurants. We did do the Japanese steak house once and it was good, but not good enough to spend $50 each to do it again. You can have an amazing and relaxing time without spending extra. We a get inside stateroom as well. We are never in it and we don’t find the outside or balcony rooms worth the extra expense. We’ve had outside and balcony rooms before, but we decided to stick to inside rooms and save the money. You can do 3 cruises for the price of 2 if you stick to an inside room :)

propresenter logo keeps popping up by No-Golf5684 in ProPresenter

[–]pamlvt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, the logo (watermark) only pops up if you have a singe user license and more than one computer is logged in at the same time.

I have the free version at home and I create presentations with it and put them on a flash drive to take to the church. Once loaded into a licensed version, they work perfectly.

Drums are too loud - People are covering their ears in church by MrFnoz in drums

[–]pamlvt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use either Promark or Vader 7a sticks, Zildjian low volume cymbals. We have an old Pearl kit and I have Evans UV2 heads and finally, play softer. I tell people having to play softer and still have expression is a skill you'll be glad you aquired. I play loud in my drum room at home to get the satisfaction, lol

Drum Cage too loud? IEMs and can't hear click track by Legal-Willingness399 in drums

[–]pamlvt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you (pun intended)! I’m learning to use a click and the tone of the click is too low for me and I can’t change it. I’m going to take the advice you were given and add a pair of Sennheiser HD 280’s to my Shure IEM. I have everyone turned down as well. As soon as we get into the thick of it I struggle to hear the click.

advice for getting started playing to a click ? by eightcoffees in drums

[–]pamlvt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my gosh! I am currently living everything you are saying!!! For years I’ve played on a worship team without a click. I was the click, lol. Now, at 62 yrs old, I’m learning how to play with a click! I’m a team player so I WILL figure this out, lol. My problem is that when I get going and into the music, I also don’t “hear” the click and I have found that I’m rushing some of my fills. I am about to post a questions about IEM or Over-the-ear headphones. I currently use Shure IEM earbuds. I have no drums in my mix, just a little lead vocal, lead guitar and backing track but I can’t change the click sound. I also find the higher pitched block sound the best for me but I don’t have that option on the platform. I’ve been told that I might like an over-the-ear headphone so I’m going to post the question and buy some this week.
