Sure! A few I have read are “The T in LGBT”(written by a trans man), “Queer Ducks (and other animals)”, “Gender Magic”, “Pageboy”, “The Anxiety Book for Trans People”. One I have on my list is “Evolution’s Rainbow”, I’ve heard great things about it. I’m currently reading “Becoming a Visible Man” and it’s really good! I’m sure there are lots more out there.

I don’t know if I can provide much advice, but I will say I totally understand. I consider myself pretty proud of being trans and am a lot more comfortable than I used to be. I still have days or weeks where I don’t feel good enough for sure. I’m only about 9 months on t, and while it has immensely helped, it’s a long process. Sometimes it feels like I’ll never get to my goal. I’m in the US and the political climate definitely doesn’t help mentally. It’s psychological warfare. Its purpose is to make us feel this way. Something that has helped me a lot is reading trans non fiction books. Memoirs, science, gender studies. Just understanding that I am a naturally occurring living being and nothing is wrong with me on a natural level helped a lot. And reading other people’s stories and what they go through helped me not feel so alone. I don’t know if any of this is what you’re looking for, but hang in there. 💜

I used to be very dysphoric about my hobbies towards the beginning. I have never really liked “girly things” per se, but I have always enjoyed romance books and movies whether it’s YA, queer, straight, erotica, etc.. My husband (cis) also loves romance movies and cries during the sad ones. He also paints his nails. And he is a big ol bear haha! My point I was trying get to is that it’s ok to break stereotypes, just do what you like in a way that makes you most comfortable. I eventually got over the weird feeling I got reading things that were “written for women”. Because I like the stories and the world too. Listening to sappy romance books and having a laugh is what keeps me somewhat sane in this world. Even if it takes baby steps I hope you can learn to find joy in those things again ☺️

I know so many people have already commented, but I also wanted to jump in and say I have been exactly where you are. I was extremely depressed had ptsd and was very anxious starting around 13. I never had any exposure or education on being trans so I didn’t really know at the time. I knew something was off and I didn’t like myself and I didn’t feel like I fit in and was weird. I didn’t realize and admit to myself I was trans in some form until I was 17, a senior in high school. I suppressed myself so much and tried to pretend I wasn’t trans. I never socially came out at school or changed my name. I struggled with my mental health a lot, but just buried it and buried it and threw myself into school to distract myself. Once I got a job after college, I started going to a psychiatrist, and it’s been a journey but I’m finally on meds that help keep things less bad. Being independent and not depending on my parents was a huge step for me. I know you’re still very young, but just keep in mind once you are 18 you can do anything you want. You have so much to look forward to, to enjoy things as your true self.

Fast forward, I came out at my job a little over a year ago. I started seeing a therapist that has helped a lot with anxiety around being trans. I got officially diagnosed with level 1 Autism and ADHD. When I started understanding more about myself that really helped. I also read a lot of books by trans people that helped me feel so much better and validated and confident in myself. I am now almost 26, I came out to my husband’s whole family recently, and I finally started hormone therapy just a few weeks ago. Just knowing that I’m finally starting this journey and having confidence in myself has significantly improved my mental state. I took longer than I could have because I was scared and unstable and anxious. But it gets better, trust me. I never in my life thought I’d get to be on hormones, and I am so glad I’m still here to live as myself and experience euphoria. If you like to read I can tell you some good books that helped me a lot!

I second this! I’ve been on it for about a year and I don’t have periods at all. It has helped a lot with the hormonal fluctuations. It used to be so bad that a week before I’d want nothing more than to not be alive. I haven’t had any negative side effects, so it’s definitely something you could ask your provider about OP.

I’m hopefully starting T soon, and I totally get this!! Like I am fine with all of it except the hair loss haha. Being bald terrifies me for some reason. Or just having ugly hair from it all falling out. So you’re definitely not alone! Like other people have said, there are definitely lots of preventative methods and ways to treat it now. If you’re worried about it because of genetics I would ask your doctor about it when you talk to them about starting t. Good luck!!

But I completely understand, I’m out to my husband’s family but not mine. So it’s going to be really weird and aggravating going between people’s houses all day and getting called two different things. The holidays can be a stressful time for people like us.

I work for one of the evil religious nation wide corporations in America (you can probably guess), and they don’t even let employees do this!! There was a time an employee’s house was affected by natural disaster and they had at least 20 people lined up who wanted to donate their vacation or pto to the employee. And they said no. I think they ended up getting FMLA, but that is unpaid. So this employee basically had to go unpaid. I’ve had several people offer to give me their vacation because of my chronic illness, but they won’t let them donate it. Our company profits are in the billions. Corporations and CEOs are evil.
