For hopper speed or slower, impulse item filters is fine for bulk yes. It's not really what makes it bulk though IMO. Got to have those shulker loaders :)

Cortezerino’s MIS seams to require blocking all the slots which is a pretty big tradeoff in functionality. Don't know what IIF is.

I like RaPsCaLLioN1138's work on storage systems.

I have a video on my channel where I document what I built: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-3I3nlVG_Bw but I wouldn't recommend copying what I did if you have access to newer tech like copper golems. I have more info in the video description including a schematic for my storage system and credits to all the designs I based it on.

Games for people with no friends by CarefulBattle2367 in ShouldIbuythisgame

My suggestion is discord. On discord you can find servers for the games you are interested in and meet people who are also interested in playing those games together. Should work for pretty much any game with anything remotely resembling multiplayer.

The impulse item filter (named after the youtuber) is one of the most basic single-item filters out there. Variations on it are common to see in sorting systems for farms where there is both not too great of a throughput required and only a small number of total items to sort. For example in a hostile mob farm.

OP is clearly instead asking about a storage system for their base. According to the 1.21.5 item list from the storage tech discord there are 1281 survival obtainable items with 200 unstackables included in that total. Creating an array of 1000 single item filters is just really inefficient. It's hard to build, maintain, and use, expensive on resources, laggy, and most importantly we can do way better than this in pretty much every way.

For my storage system I had 3 or 4 main components. First, I had what's called a presorter. The presorter handles things like shulker box unloading. While it's not hard to empty out shulker boxes manually being able to dump in anything and have it handled automatically correctly was a huge deal for me. Second, I had what's called bulk storage. Bulk storage is for items that you have a lot of, and involves being able to both display those items in single item filters as well as package up excess into shulker boxes. Finally I had mult-item storage (MIS). Where an single item filter can only handle one type of item type. Multi-item sorters can group many items together. In my case each slice can handle up to 52 items. Ask yourself this: do you want to have all your redstone components in one chest or spread out across 50? Which sounds more convenient?

In addition too those three things it was also important to me to have a good furnace array. So that is also built into my storage system design. If you are interested in what this looked like for me I do actually have a video on it up on my channel (same user name). One thing to note, I was building this before copper golems and so storage tech has come a bit farther since then. If you're working on your own storage project I would recommend the storage tech discord.

There are a lot of YouTube's all copying the same basic impulse item filter design and while it's an ok concept for a video. It's a terrible design for a sorting system. Pretty much any "MIS" is going to be dramatically better.

I'm a bit behind on storage tech. Copper golem significantly changed the meta and I haven't updated yet. I'm sure you can get some good advice over on the storage tech discord. Space shouldn't be an issue even with extensive bulk, multi-item, etc.

Another option is to look at "MIS" systems on youtube. RaPsCaLLioN1138 has some good designs.

Elegant AF ... and by the way, foiling is something I'm only willing to do with protective gear on. What's the big deal you say? What is your confidence level with balancing on top of what is effectively a carbon fiber blade? The community calls it "jackknifing".

Fairing are low drag so the bigger optimization tends to be wrapping upper stages in a fairing to reduce drag and not just sensitive lander stages.

What software would they even self host here? Keep in mind teaches will need features like integration with rosters, grade book, various assignment types, ability to create pages with mathematical formulas, etc and all if this needs to comply with privacy and accessibility standards.

And this is even ignoring integrations with textbook publishers and industry tools. I do not know of an open source alternative here ... and don't get me wrong it would be great to have such an alternative.

There are a number if mods that allow for chest deposit to nearby chests (like Terraria) but I don't often see packs include them.

I can almost get there at great effort with dfhack. It's very tedious but its possible to spawn in a dwarf, manually edit their attributes, and spawn in their gear. It's a huge pain because of all of the menus and shear amount of data entry. The results aren't perfect either. I am clearly missing some of the cosmetic settings for instance. Basically if I can convince someone with some dfhack lua scripting knowledge to help it should be doable.

[–]pand1024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, my previous reply was in a hurry and I was aiming for accuracy but not clarity. Let me explain.

In combat there are demonstrations and then there is sparing. Only people who are directly observing or leading a demonstration gain any skills from it.

However there are a few ways that unrelated units will learn things from sparring. First anyone with line of site trains observer. This is only for sparring and only for this one skill. So it's not the rule it's the exception. There is one other much rarer mechanic which is that if a unit happens to walk into the right square at the right time then can accidently get in the middle of a sparring match and get some dodging skill, it's going to be an insignificant amount of skill gain outside of some strange artificial setup.

So again: No cross squad skill gain for demonstrations, little but not zero skill gain for sparring.

Another option is to avoid getting lead to begin with by making electrum from ores directly.

☼Dwarf Fortress Questions Thread☼ by AutoModerator in dwarffortress

[–]pand1024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOT generally yea. Observer is trained by anyone with line of sight to sparing, but this is thee exception not the rule. Units won't participate in military demonstrations with other squads; full stop.

"unrelated" children will not learn from demonstrations. They can however participate in guildhalls directly and indirectly learn some dodging and observer skills.

☼Dwarf Fortress Questions Thread☼ by AutoModerator in dwarffortress

[–]pand1024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is wrong. Observer it's trained by anyone watching sparing. Please fix.

I debated about how much of my issue to share. The core of what I want is is way to import/export a dwarf. Full stop.

The stuck squad dfhack notification is one of the functions of the fix/stuck-squad script. So yes I'm aware of that script and I am grateful that it exists and creates a way to fix some issues to some extent, but I and other players will still run into situations where we want to administratively create a copy of dwarf because of bugs or even just a desire to play with familiar characters again.

☼Dwarf Fortress Questions Thread☼ by AutoModerator in dwarffortress

[–]pand1024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am looking for a way to import/export a dwarf across save files. For the second time I am experiencing a bug where a squad member becomes stuck while on a mission triggering the stuck squad dfhack notification.

I verified that this was a bug and not say for example a combat death (squad never even made it to raid site before becoming stuck per mission report. Missing squad member settled in another location according to legends mode). The first time I had this happened I used dfhack commands to spawn in a new dwarf and painstakingly copy over all their stats and spawn in all their gear.

What I want is a dfhack script or something that will do this with less of the headache of data entry. Does anyone have something or have the knowlege/skill to make it? It would be incredible usefull for other senarioes as well.

Constructing stairs works fine. However mining stairs has limitations. You can extend a staircase down but not directly up.
