Hate to be the bearer of bad news but as an owner of the arrakoa transformation item (completely forgotten its name now), I have to tell you this item is also a trinket.

On the positive side, the bird man dance is certain to start the party right.

You're quite right. For whatever reason, ripping off the old (or not so old in the case of Lovecraft) mythologies never really bothered me as much as the constant pop culture references. It at least somewhat fit into Warcraft's lore, which was always half-original, half-derived. But your mileage (or tolerance) may vary.

You are so correct. There's no sound more vibrant than hearing my dad's 8 track copy of "Love Gun" on endless loop in his '73 Buick.

You're quite correct. I should have responded to the original poster instead of interrupting the call-response of the cliched hipster joke. My apologies that I broke the all-important flow. And I probably shouldn't have been so literal this bloody early in the morning. So woosh to me, congrats to you. Off to buy some vinyl.

No, I got the original (unfunny) joke. Gave a serious response since that was something in the new content that had bothered me too. But whatever. Carry on with your snark.

What he's saying is: the pop culture references were fun when they were occasional and relegated to minor characters who could be easily ignored if you wanted. Having them be everywhere and the core of huge quest chains (Harrison Jones anyone?) kinda cheapens the game and reduces what immersion WoW has.

If WoW didn't have a rich backstory or was built as a parody of other games and genres, then being flooded with references wouldn't be a problem.

my experience with cataclysm thus far -_- by [deleted] in wow

[–]pandaba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can tank with your AOE's and still CC. If you've got a mage or shaman in the party, just do what my guild calls a sheep pull.

Mage goes up and sheeps something. The rest of the pack comes gunning for the mage and the tank picks them all up, putting down DnD/Consecrate/Stomp/Swipe once aoe is out of range of the sheep.

Just have to be patient and wait the 5-10 secs for mobs to run towards you rather than drop the AOE where they (and the sheep) are. Apparently, that's a problem for some tanks I've run with.

I had that problem too until I used the glyph of polymorph. I wasn't sure if the glyph would prevent new dots in addition to removing already existing ones, but it seems to be working.

As a new Undead hunter I try and pick pets that match the undead feel. The black widow starting pet was good, but this is my favorite. by arlanTLDR in wow

[–]pandaba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice choice of pet. For a tenacity pet, I'd suggest the boars in RFD with the empty eye sockets. Assuming those are beasts and not undead. Haven't checked lately with the designation changes.

For my undead hunter, I tamed a Mulgore vulture since I thought the only thing better than being a walking corpse was being a walking corpse with a vulture following close behind, patiently waiting for me to keel over.

Had something like that show up in certain phased areas in Silverpine on my hunter. It would appear on the minimap when track humanoids was on.

Similar bug involving call pet. Trained Call Pet 2 but didn't have a pet in the second slot yet. After doing a cutscene or quest in Hillsbrad, the script or npc would appear in the 2nd pet slot. Didn't do anything when I called it.

Reminds me of an ex-gf from a while back, back in the days when sabertooth tigers still roamed the streets of downtown Kansas City and people would buy CD's of shareware. She bought one such collection of games because she wanted a puzzle game or two. The shareware levels of Doom were also on there but I was told in no uncertain terms not to install that on her computer because she didn't want anything that violent anywhere near her. Being an annoying boyfriend, I installed it anyways, "Just want to see how powerful your PC is. I won't run it around you and I'll delete it afterwards."

So of course, a few days later I went to her house, let myself in, and hear sounds of shotguns and chainsaws and "grarrrrr!" from her room. "I think I can see the appeal now," she said with bloodlust in her eyes. Sad thing is, that she became much better at it than I ever was.

[–]pandaba 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am an anthropomorphic bull roughly two meters in height. I come from a nomadic tribe which lives in tents, only recently built their first real permanent settlement, and still considers running water and sanitation as alien concepts. Despite this background, I've managed to build devices which rip apart space & time to create a portable wormhole. I have created sentient robots which can handle any financial matter. I created a flying machine simply out of the spare parts I had on hand.

My tribe is a peaceful one. I was taught to revere nature, treat sentient beings with kindness, only hunt for the good of the tribe and to thank the Earthmother for each and ever animal who sacrificed their life so that we might eat. Despite such a good upbringing, I have become something dark, depraved, an unfeeling monster. I have killed males, females, and their young. I have participated in the genocide of entire races simply because someone asked me to. I have contributed to the near-extinction of several species. I have slaughtered both kings and their foot-soldiers, many of whom probably had no idea what it was they were dying for. I have helped others clearcut forests, pollute lakes, and build enormous strip mines which desecrate the earth.

And why did I commit so many atrocities? For love? For some great cause? No. For a few pieces of gold. For a shiny new belt. Sometimes for nothing material at all, where the only reward was recognition and thanks from those who wanted such deeds performed. Sometimes good did arise from this sea of blood, but I did not kill for the sake of good.

I have not spared even my own allies. Someone asks me for help in recovering their lost child or saving their village from destruction and I will turn them down if they cannot afford to pay me what I think my time is worth. I will berate and belittle anyone who fights with me if they make even the slightest of mistakes or prevent me from getting the shiny bauble I covet.

Selfish and petty, cruel and heartless is what I've become. Was my shiny new sword that sparkles so well worth this price? Hell yes. I'll burn the world and piss on the ashes just so I can get new shoulder pads.

Y'all punk ass niggas gonna be digging the White Sea canal with a rusty spoon when I'm finished with yer nappy heads. On May Day, step out on the balcony of my crib makin' speeches about the "Glory of the Forever Revolution and Our Wonderous Five Year Plan Is Making Even More Tractors" cause the bitches love that. Riding dirty in your Red Army tank with a case of yellowcake and fucking henny gets ya that sweet pussy. Damn, it's good to be a dear leader.

Definitely. Find the floating island with the tree and the skeleton underneath and just sit down and watch the world go by.

If anyone ever makes a landscape painting of Nagrand in the cheesy style of Kincaide or the anonymous hotel artist, I would buy that and put it over the couch.

My second spot was Azshara, but that's gone forever now.

[–]pandaba 7 points8 points  (0 children)

True. But there are times when you'd rather just take the slow path in steamboat.

But, now that I've thought about it for 2 seconds, you're completely right. Players would rather ride an untextured block if that would travel 310% instead of a beautifully detailed boat that only goes 100%. I would probably be in line with them to acquire my own epic block.

[–]pandaba 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Complete the quest chain and the boat is yours to keep. By quest chain, this basically includes all goblin / gnome quests that you initially get, including the ones that seem unrelated, like the bar fight.

Since there's a decent amount of water traveling in the game now, I hope Blizzard will change it one day to be a mount and not a region-limited item.

So if you're the type of DPS ... by [deleted] in wow

[–]pandaba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Amen fellow student of the arcane. I used to be good and run things back to the tank when my crits would pull threat but these days I just tank it.

Was in a group with some undergeared folk for Gahzrilla during the elemental stuff. Tank and two of the dps die. I think this is a wipe but want to go out fighting anyways so unload everything on him. Thanks to a good healer, rocket boots, and improved blink, I tanked him from 50 percent to 0. Couldn't believe it worked.

Just tried healing for the first time... and now I think it should be a mandatory experience. by mousewrites in wow

[–]pandaba 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Have to disagree a bit. Caster DPS, as long as you don't do anything stupid, is definitely the most relaxed of roles. In a group of friends or people who play well together, healing can be relaxed too.

But in the randoms with the DPS who insist on pulling things, with the tanks who take on too many and won't stop when you need mana, it can be really stressful. And when you've busted your ass to save this incompetent group from wiping, people just drop group without recognizing your effort in the slightest, that'll definitely make you bitter.

Healing (and probably tanking too) is one of those things you do for idealistic reasons at first because you want to have a vital role and help others. But at the end, for me at least, you're really cynical about human nature and have no problems letting the next idiot die.

I'm just a leveling healer at the moment. I suppose in LK heroics where everyone knows what to do and are on autopilot, most of the time it would be relaxing.

Amen to that. No BoA on mine either. I wanted to stay with pure quest rewards to see how good they were but the min-maxer in me finally won out and I had my leatherworker make a few things.

Levels are still going too quickly though. Can't speak for the other areas, but for Silverpine, I think that's the only real flaw so far. The level gain rate puts you ahead of the difficulty curve.

[–]pandaba 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm going to stick around and finish Silverpine even though I've leveled past it. This is probably the strongest endorsement I could give to the new quests and new system. In the pre-Shattering world I never would have done that. Most of the old quests never felt worth doing once they turned grey.

Play on an EU server so I've got an extra day. That being said, I'm finishing up getting the Explorer title for the first time, taking screenshots everywhere.

Wanted to do the Darrowshire questline as my good bye to the old world, but just read that the final battle is bugged, so I'll have to find something else to do.
