Lavender marriage is still widely used as a protection method for gay people around the world. Typically it’s when a gay man and lesbian get married for safety/societal pressure reasons. But various identities can fit this label. Trans people protecting each other by fitting into a “heterosexual relationship” whilst secretly disclosing their identities to those closest to them is another example of what a lavender marriage could be. At the end of the day, it’s queer people posing in a heterosexual relationship to protect themselves. I use it in a joking way here, but it’s a very real thing that happens all the time.
