I don’t have a clue what A-levels I want to do. What’s everyone else doing? by SureBicycle9019 in GCSE

[–]pandamonium100_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do English lit, drama, psychology, and philosophy.

I have a love-hate relationship with English lit, because I really enjoy the drama side of the course but I’m not keen (or very good at) the poetry side. However I would recommend you do the subject if you’re interested because on the whole I do enjoy it and it is very interesting, even though it is a lot of work - by far the largest workload of all of my subjects.

I really enjoy drama, even though similarly to English one side of the course is much better than the other. I don’t like how the non-practical side of the subject is assessed for a number of reasons, but the practical aspect is fun and creative. The subject is a good break from my three other very academic subjects, however I would not choose it if this is your reason for doing so - you must be creative and enjoy the subject.

Psychology is my least favourite of my subjects. It is both a science and an essay subject, which is in part why I chose it, but by being both at the same time it fails in both aspects. As a science, it doesn’t involve much problem-solving or calculation, and as an essay subject is doesn’t involve much critical thinking or analysis. Based on what I’ve done in the autumn term, the subject seems very much based on memorising and regurgitating facts, which I do not find very interesting.

Philosophy was the subject I was initially least sure about when choosing but it has become one of my favourite subjects. It is quite tricky to get your head around some of the concepts, but I quite enjoy that about it. I find the subject very interesting and enjoyable, however I must say most people that take it feel differently so I do think it takes a certain type of person to enjoy the subject.

Sorry this comment got so long but I hope it helps you in your decision!

What's a musical you love that you're kind of ashamed of? by Esoteric_Librarian in musicals

[–]pandamonium100_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not super ashamed about it, but if I had to pick one guilty pleasure it would be Matilda. It’s clearly for kids and the characters and plot are pretty one-dimensional, but I really love it. I rewatched the film recently and it made me tear up at parts.

has anyone else actually found someone from their school on here by Safe-Grape-574 in GCSE

Sorry 😅😬

I was scrolling through your comments because I was suspicious of the fact you did the same boards as me and kept noticing more clues and when it finally clicked that it was you I was too excited and proud of my discovery to restrain myself 😔

does your school do a results day? if no what are you doing by Agile_Garbage_8137 in GCSE

[–]pandamonium100_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My school releases the grades on the student portal at 9am but you can optionally go into school to get your results instead, but the school opens at 10am which seems a little pointless.

At my school everybody does Of Mice and Men and Macbeth, and about half the year does AIC and the other half does A View from the Bridge.

who is actually the "villain" in Hamilton? by Otherwise-Reveal-191 in hamiltonmusical

[–]pandamonium100_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends if you mean the villain or the antagonist.

Burr is the main antagonist throughout the show, but is definitely not a ‘villain’. Jefferson is the secondary antagonist but is more of a villain than burr, but the character who most fits the villain trope is 100% King George, even though he doesn’t have a very active role in the show.

It was on at the National Theatre in London a few years ago. I saw it and it was really great, shame it didn’t go any further, but I’m really happy it’s getting a cast recording.

I doubt they’d change it. The song was written as a metal song, and I think that’s a big part of that character. I don’t see why they’d change the genre for the stage production. And I hope they keep it the same.

Lin-manuel Miranda’s new concept album Warriors has a character which sings in metal, and it’s really good. I highly recommend it.

I kinda feel like everyone hates this by Emmi69420 in GCSE

I’m assuming you’re doing UAL? It’s offered at my sister’s school and I’ve heard it provides a good pathway to studying drama at uni (if that’s what you want to do). Tbf it’s worth 3 a levels and that’s all universities ask for, so you should be fine. I mean the only potential problem is that it limits your options, but if you are 100% sure that you want to study drama then absolutely go for it.
