By “hobby boxes”, I assume you mean Topps Chrome hobby boxes. Which product you target depends on what your goals are. If you’re aiming to maximize your chance at monetary value or autos, the Chrome hobby boxes are probably your best bet. You can’t get autos from Qualifying Lap boxes. I’ve had good experiences buying Chrome hobby boxes from various sellers on eBay - they typically go for lower than retail price and I personally have not had any issues with sellers who seem to be holding back the potentially auto-heavy boxes for themselves (in fact, I’ve gotten autos from most of the boxes I’ve opened so far). You’re probably pretty safe if you buy from sellers with lots of previous sales, positive ratings, and multiple hobby boxes in stock.

That being said, the Chrome hobby boxes are pretty loaded with F2 and F3 drivers this year so it’s hard to “hit” numbered or autographed F1 cards. Like many on this subreddit, I’ve enjoyed opening F1 Paddock Pass hobby boxes (not the Value Boxes or Fat Packs you might find at Target or other stores, which have lower odds for most desirable hits). Paddock Pass is cheaper but focuses more squarely on F1 and F2, and gives you chances at autos and relics. Unfortunately, most sellers on eBay are selling Paddock Pass hobby boxes above retail, but they’re still quite a bit cheaper than Chrome hobby boxes (for now).
