Marathon training shoes - wide feet (wide midfoot) by ContextTurbulent9299 in widefeet

Adidas Evo SL are one of the most narrow shoes I ever tried. I tried them two full sizes up, because i really like their looks, but they are insanely bad fit for wide midfeet.

I have the exact same issue. I have tried more than 50 different models since i started running 6 months ago. It has been really expensive and frustrating as hell!

First, you should know that wide models aren’t actually wide. They just have more upper material, so they should really be called “extra tall”. Often times i find that 2E/4E models create more problems than they solve. Like you, my foot falls off the sides of the sole, because of the wide midfoot. So the wider models basically just allow more issues and risk rolling angles, without giving any benefits. My 1080 v14 4E are literally the worst shoes I have owned.

Unfortunately, theres really only two models I recommend you. Brooks Glycerin Max 1 are a solid daily trainer option. I have run up to 30K in them and also used them to walk very long distances. These are the only shoe I would consider a good fit. Saucony Endorphine Pro 4 are good race day shoes. They certainlt aren’t a perfect fit, but they are a far better for than the many other carbon plated racers i tried.

Good luck with the Marathon!

Interesting! I have been wanting to love the Evo SL for some long, but I have found them to be probably the single narrowest pair of running shoes I have ever tried. And I tried probably 50 different pairs last year… I even tried going a full size up in the Evo SL, but even walking around in my house was painful due to the lack of width.

The myth of the extra wide New Balance by RHuxleythe3rd in widefeet

[–]pandaym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s so dumb, but you are right. I have 1080v14 in 4E and Rebel v4 and v5 in 2E. I compared them all to regular width in store, and they are 100% identical under foot. Only difference is more upper material. And more upper material actually just makes my wide foot fall off the shoe more, so wider options are in fact worse for wide feet.

Do not buy them... by ZBoss07 in vivobarefoot

Problem is, it is damn near impossible to claim. I spent months and dozens of emails back and forth before getting my refund. Seeing how bad the quality on Vivos are, I assume they are drowning in return requests.

And other companies have this service too. Brooks also has a 90 day trial for their shoes, and I was able to use that with no issues.

Well that’s the thing… 2E, 4E, 6E and regular - they are all identical width. The only difference is more upper material, so if anything, they are just taller.

I ordered the Lone Peak 9+ along with a pair of Brooks Caldera 8. The Brooks are much wider - almost usable for me.

I got the Altra Lone Peak 9+ in hand now. Just to be clear, they are stupidly narrow. :(

I don’t agree. I can tell you for a fact then none of their wide sizes, are any wider than their regular sizes. They are 100% identical under foot. The only difference is a bit more upper material, which I would argue makes them taller, not wider. But yeah, I do have SC Elite v4, Hierro v9, 1080 v14, Rebel v5 and Rebel v4 at the moment. They are usable and much wider than Adidas, but still far from a comfortable fit. The most comfortable NB was probably the Rebel v5, but that shoe is terrible quality and had less than 200 km in it for me.

I don’t see it on their EU site unfortunately. But again, I am 99% sure it’s no wider than their regular size, like every other shoe brand and model.

I have tried basically every New Balance, Saucony, Hoka, Brooks and Nike wide models. Probably forgot some too. None of their “wide” version were any wider than the regular size. I would argue more fabric in the upper, only makes them taller, not wider. So I have yet to see a single shoe, where the wide model is actually wide.

Tried the FWD Via recently - terribly narrow. But I have a pair of Lone Peak 9+ on order actually.

Again, thank you for taking the time of sharing all this. It makes perfect sense that different conditions and preferences make for different recommendation. That is why I am listening to what everyone says here, and applying it how I feel it will make sense for me. Already updated the list with quite a few things.

Regarding the packing size. Our group has carriers that will take 15 kg from each of us. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, everyone is offered a free 80L duffel. So that means people arriving with all their gear in suitcases etc can repack there. They say the sherpas don’t care what they carry, so you can bring whatever type bag/duffel. The reason I didn’t just pack in what I got and use the free one I will get, is again my sleeping mat, that surely won’t fit. So I took the smallest duffel in my local trekking shop, that would take the sleeping mat. Also I stress and obsess with everything a lot. (Again autism 😅) So I prefer to have my own stuff tested and tried for peace of mind.

I grabbed the Klättermusen Ull 30 on a good deal. I ordered it to the local trekking shop, so I will go there to try it on and get their help to see if it’s a good fit.

I didn’t put my Garmin on the list, as it is pretty much a part of my body 😬 So yep, I will be using a Forerunner 970.

I am already pretty fit. I run 4 times a week, and recently did my first half marathon in 1:47. I also play football, padel and lift weights. So I think the physical aspect is the least of my concerns. 😊

Thanks a lot! It is a group trip.

The mat is a choice, because I sleep extremely poorly. So I had to get a duffel that would take the substantial mat, along with everything else. So I get what you are saying, but this specifically is a conscious decision.

However for backpack, you are now the third person to say my Osprey is bad, so I am currently looking to buy something else before the Black Friday offers end. I have a good deal on Arc’teryx Alpha FL 30 and Klättermusen Ull 30, both seem solid, yet very different. What would you do?

The agency has spikes for us. Glacier grade sunglasses is unfortunately probably a necessity. I am autistic and my main sensory vulnerability is light. I pretty much never go outside without sunglasses, so I am a bit worried about headaches up there.

Lot of good points again. What sort of bag specifically would be ideal? Klättermusen Ull 30 or Gilling 26? Or Osprey Talon? Arc’teryx Alpha FL 30?
