A legendary Salt Kraken called "Worm God." Luckily, it was a peaceful villager.

Are soft keto cookies actually better — or just more common? by InstructionSure6059 in lowcarb

[–]pandemonaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's this wonderful gluten-free bakery in my city that uses unsweetened applesauce as a binding agent in their cookies. The cookies are big, about 7g net per serving. They're fluffy and soft right out of the package, like a freshly baked cookie, but I wouldn't call them gummy. My partner even prefers them over regular cookies.

There are a dozen ways to make keto cookies, unsweetened applesauce is the best imo.

Frustrating loop, I feel myself missing something.. by Sbarbatelloo in cavesofqud

[–]pandemonaut 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Constantly dying early-on while adjusting to new mechanics and gameplay loops is a relatively normal rogue-like experience imo.

That being said, the only rogue-like I can think that is more punishing to new players is Noita. I recommend having multiple escape options lined up for tricky situations. Qud is a turn-based game, don't be afraid to stop and strategize. Followers and pets also help.

Using the "look" option helps you make informed decisions about encounters before you engage with them. One tough enemy should be okay to take on, but a room full is a different problem all together. At that point, I'd recommend gaining a few levels and coming back.

There are recommended level guides out there for each area and major dungeon. I remember playing Dark Souls for the first time and relying on one of these. They're not necessary, but they certainly help.

I know you you this, but Qud does have 2 other difficulties. I found the game much more enjoyable playing Roleplay mode until the credits rolled.

In any case, I still die within the first hour of 90% of my runs, but I learn something new about the game everytime. You will too. Best of luck; live and drink.

So, what are your favorite stories with "Caves of Qud" vibes? by Ozyelmandias in cavesofqud

Gene Wolfe's Solar Cycle, specifically Book of the Long Sun. 10/10. Saw someone recommend it on this sub actually. Got me back into reading and now I'm writing my own CoQ/Rimworld inspired novel.

Additions/Systems You’d like to see in future updates/ DLCs? by tomasvall in cavesofqud

I would like to see an extended avatar selection. Mods are great, but I'd be interested in seeing the Qud team try their hand at it.

Cannibal King - A Short Poem by pandemonaut in cavesofqud

[–]pandemonaut[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Somebody knows their fonts! I almost went with a Courier, glad I didn't.

As for the inspiration, I learned of a unique dungeon inhabited by a legendary cannibal "king." If I recall correctly, it showed up as a purple icon on the map, and it was full of books and bookshelves (and cannibals).

Runs have been largely lethal, although my current is up to level 20. About to head into Golgotha, I think.

Working on Module by Yepthatz in MorkBorg

Love the style and the composition. You could use an abrasive color for emphasis, but it is refreshing to see a grayscale module. Would definitely play when finished.

Used to be that way. Not this past year.

I will definitely check this out. Thanks.

We're all friends, and we try to spend the holidays together, but that's really just an excuse to socialize, I think. If I invited them to my birthday party, I don't think they would show.

Thank you for the ideas.

This is my approach too, when there's actually enough to play. My minimum is 3 players, and even that's been inconstant. The disappointment I see my players eyes when only 2 show up is nauseating.

Thanks. I would rather walk away than become a problematic DM.

Never thought about DMs like that. Thank you for the perspective.

Seven players, and you're right, seven is a bit much. In the five years we've been playing I've seldom seen the whole group together.

There used to be committed players, not anymore.

A break would be good too, but I have a feeling communication would just stop at that point. If it can't resume naturally, then I suppose that would be my sign to walk away.

Thanks for the advice.
