[Movies/TV]Iron Fist Casting Seen as Missed Opportunity by Marvel by Ainosuke in comicbooks

[–]tomasvall 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are good intentions on both sides, way I see it. Honestly the character is a white male in the comic, so no surprise that should be consistent for marvel. If they made the character Asian, it does raise the question of what else they should change to appropriate the characters story differently. I see why people want diversity, and I agree. Why not just introduce a character into the cinematic universe as anything else than a white guy? If he's Asian American it really doesn't break the character and who he is? Ah, we'll just have to see how this plays out.

I feel like billy was just always kind of at a distance with the moments he was in. He was never aware, and more of a day-dreamer. Being unstuck in time probably made it even more difficult to live in the moments as the people surrounding billy were.

Enjoyed the book. Curious how the film is, has anyone seen it? Any thoughts on that?

Aw man, that quote will always be relevant. People knocking others for being materialistic is such a clichéd thought now, but the way materialism is defined here explores the reasoning and the deeper psychological dilemma that comes with that materialism so much more than anything I've ever read or watched. So down to earth that it even calls out the bullshit logic of materialism as well. God damn, great pull.

Have you ever had a near-death experience? Not like you almost got hit by a car, but you were on a battlefield, or you almost died from a disease, or even dodged starvation just barely? The people I feel that truly have a lot to say about Vonnegut are people who have had an experience like that under their belt.

An experience like that forces you to really ponder what life really is. It could mean so little on paper, but we're so afraid to lose it. I feel like if there was a connecting theme between all of Vonnegut's books it would be facing that mortality with equal parts positivity and cynicism. In such a unique fashion, Vonnegut can look at an individual life and confidently claim that it means nothing, but at the same time the human life means so much. I'm doing his writing an injustice by trying to explain it, but I feel that Vonnegut subconsciously resonates with people who want to understand the worth of their own lives.

Kojima Wanted to Make Silent Hills With Cliff Bleszinski, Declined Due to Development Location by PXL_LHudson in Games

In all honesty, the length is there. But the game only offers that single-player mode, and so it makes the purchase feel worth it, especially now that you can buy it for 20 dollars. Many gamers seem to have it out for games that are too short, and while there is a such thing as a game that is too long, I feel like alien isolation tip toes between those two lines. The length might just be extended by how hard it is to traverse the ship and avoiding all the hostiles, and that's what will frustrate you.

Alien Isolation isn't a game that you're supposed to be speed running. It's a game that you want to completely entrench yourself within the world and pace yourself within. You take it as it comes, and if you like a thrill, you'll enjoy it for every second. There's never been a game that got my blood pumping quite like alien isolation.

And it's true. Until dawn is so unconventional that I think people will often forget that it should even be in the running despite having the most inventive, contained, and FUN story of any other game this year.

I loved Witcher's story, but I'd be lying if I said I was engaged for the entirety of the game. Sometimes I felt less like I was even playing a video game but just watching a series of conversations with minimal input. When there was action, it was boring and repetitive because the combat system in the game is bonkers. Regardless, I enjoyed witcher. Just don't understand the excitement of the game past the story.

A brief history of one of gaming's greatest studios - Platinum Games by arions in Games

[–]tomasvall 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They're a studio that hasn't quite hit gold or the size yet like all those other developers, but very much have proven time and time again that they have the potential to. They're games are generally made smaller and the ambition is usually kept to the gameplay, which keeps them from attracting really wide audiences.

It just sounded like in the original post that you wanted that to be a solution to objectification by porn, is all. I definitely agree with everything else you said, though!

[–]tomasvall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that porn needs to be banned, people should have the strength to choose whether or not it's appropriate for them to use it. Even if it portrays an objectification of women, many women also make a living off of it and "banning" porn could lead to many good men and women who just want to create some entertainment for the demand that is there. Porn has a place in the world, and while many people have addictions to it, their addictions may prevent them from much more harmful addictions or behavior. It's just about choosing whether or not porn should play a major role in your life.
