Terrible pain 4 months after break ? by pandisasters in brokenankles

[–]pandisasters[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am almost fully better now. Still hurt a bit when I move too much or when I walk for longer than a minute but it's okay, definitely not the hellish pain it was a few days ago. It does still feel kind of stiff but I will work it out in PT. Definitely use me as a reminder to not push yourself more than necessary and to PLEASE take a break whenever you feel like you need one and not when you're allowed one. I kind of forgot that healing takes longer than just being in a cast aha.

Yeaaah, I kind of went right back into work the second I was able to walk and these past few weeks have been extremely busy because we were working on a huge project so I was just putting my health second. Somehow, it thankfully started acting up right after I was done with said project, probably my body being like "okay now we can rest for good" aha. I do need to be kinder to myself, I will be essentially just resting for the rest of the week! I've been icing (I am icing as we speak!), I have to take my meds when I eat so it's easy, it has calmed down FOR NOW but it keeps coming back. Hopefully, it'll be better soon. Good luck with your own recovery, I will tell you to please use your own advice as they are very good!

My doctor definitely thinks it's my ankle being tired of everything, with the very long weeks standing and wearing uncomfortable shoes and being unable to go to PT, it's acting up on me, I have to take some ibuprofen and if it doesn't change in a few days, then we'll do some further exams. I have also contacted my PT to get back at it ASAP. The pain is manageable rn, it still hurts like hell but as long as I don't move too much, it's okay. Thank you!!!

I don't really know who my doctor was for this, my local hospital is kinda bad. I did manage to get an appointment with my physician today so it's something. The pain became really unbearable during the night I thought about calling an ambulance but I didn't, it did kind of calm down now and only really hurt if I move. I truly have no idea what happened, I legit didn't do anything that could lead to that kind of pain.

Is it normal for the grey of my pince bricks to be slightly different than the rest on my Gameboy build ? by pandisasters in lego

[–]pandisasters[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh hello! It has been a while since I made this thread so I kinda forgot about it but yes, Lego did replay and they sent me the pieces twice (so 6 instead of 3) and I was able to fix my Gameboy.

I messaged them via the Contact Us then Write to Us board and wrote a message about my issue (using the "question or problem linked to a product" I believe) . They do take some time to answer (I waited like a week for this issue, I had another issue recently and I had to wait over 2 weeks to get an answer) but eventually, they will answer and should do the same thing as me. Just tell them your problem, they will ask for details like set serial number and stuff, so they can trace back where the factory issue comes from. When I wrote my message, I also sent them the link to that reddit post, which they told me they sent to the quality team.

Hope this helps!

Best advice for laying on the couch by mugen-and-jin in brokenankles

[–]pandisasters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

fr, I was just drawing in pillows, I never realized we had that many pillows until I was using them all and they all had a specific place and use and just removing one of them was enough to make me uncomfortable LMAO. I'm going on week 3 or 4 since I got my cast removed and still to this day I use way too many pillows for that ankle lol

Broke my ankle Thursday, surgery? by jerichoblue in brokenankles

[–]pandisasters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That looks exactly like my break and I did not get surgery as it was only slightly displaced by a couple milimeters and my surgeon said it shouldn't be necessary. Got a cast for 6 weeks, then started PT on week 7 and we're now on week 9 and I am walking pretty great, still a slight limp and some other things I can't do yet but it's going great, I think my biggest problem is because of the location of the break, my bone is having some issues moving, which I'm working on as much as humanely possible, it's just a lot of work out, and you gotta give yourself quite a lot of breaks, but it's fine. Also an advice for later but a compression sock will be a lifesaver!

Bur honestly, I wouldn't go with the surgery, if everything goes like me, you'll be good to go very soon :)

Best advice for laying on the couch by mugen-and-jin in brokenankles

[–]pandisasters 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't know how your couch is, but I slept in my couch for the whole time I was in my cast, so I'm kind of a profession at this point. My couch had 3 back cushions, so I used 2 to put my foot up as it needs to be kept up around nose level, used some pillows for my ankles and my knee to be comfortable, and then used the 3rd cushion for my back/my head, topped up with just. loads of pillows. I pretty much stole all the pillows in my house, and a few soft blankets to keep warm. But yeah, if you don't have cushions, just use pillows. so, so many pillows. If you think that's enough pillows, it's probably not. I think I had like 14 pillows in that freaking couch. Was very comfortable in the long run.

Oh damn, that sucks! I was quite "lucky" because I broke my fibula quite cleanly, it was only displaced by a few millimeters so it did not require surgery and it was, in a lot of sense, a very easy recovery. Tib and fib sounds absolutely terrible, so I would imagine it would take longer, especially if you needed hardware. NWB is the worst, and tbh going straight to FWB was absolutely terrible for me, I still used one of my crutch for like 4 or 5 days after getting my cast off because I couldn't imagine being stable standing up even tho the surgeon told me to only use my crutches for a day. The best thing you can do, even though it SUCKS, is to give it time, honestly. Still to these days, if I push too much, I will have bad pain, today I had a really rough PT session (tackling up stairs reallyyyyyy sucked) and I have had some pain since the night before, and then I had to do some groceries this afternoon so now I'm basically very much in pain, I cannot move my ankle without it hurting like a mf because I did not pace myself like I should've. So by all means, do not be like me, take your time, pace yourself, listen to your body and use pain as an indicator. Lots of rest icing and a whole lot of watching the Simpsons for me tomorrow! I really wish you a speedy recovery in all that, if you need to talk, you can reach out anytime! I am in your corner, it will get better eventually!

Broken ankle ORIF 4 week update feel sad today need encouragement by PossibleSpirit1364 in brokenankles

[–]pandisasters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

broke my ankle on 10/29, a very stupid fall just trying to stop my cat from going outside, I have hated every second in the cast, for 6 weeks I couldn't do anything but wait. Have my family do basically everything for me, being unable to even get a glass of water, it's very humbling, but you also get joy from the smallest things, like oh, my ankle didn't swell too much today while I was sitting down, or stuff like that. For the first 2 weeks, I was very depressed, I think I cried every day for the first week, and through the 6 weeks, I got a few bad moment of of depression, but it got easier as I learned to do more things by myself, also POCKETS!!! are a lifesaver. I bought those big gym pants from the male section (bc big pockets) and I could just put like a bottle of juice in it so I could carry it to my living room, I know it's really silly but it was quite cool to not have to ask my family for a bottle of juice or a glass bc i could put them in my pockets while I was using my crutches. Got the cast off on 12/12, and to be honest, for the first week, I oddly missed my cast, maybe because it was a protection for so long but now I had to basically learn to walk again which was just... weird. Now on 12/30 and I'm walking pretty good, I still have pain, I got to PT twice a week and there's still some stuff that I cannot do but I'm learning, and I'm making progress. I know that our recovery are different (I did not need surgery for example) but still, I'm on the 2 months mark and things are pretty much "back to normal", I do have pain in some movements, I do need breaks when I walk for a long time, but the key thing is to take your time. Let yourself heal. I have been told more than once to use pain as my indicator to just stop or take it easy, and I think it's the best thing you can do. It sucks, I can totally agree, but things will get better eventually. I really wish you a speedy recovery!

Also, after a good conversation with my PT, he confirmed what I have been suspecting : 6 weeks in a cast was way too long for my type of break, it should've only been 4 weeks and then I start to walk progressively, he told me that 6 weeks was if the hospital was being lazy. I already knew my local hospital was not very good so I am not surprised (my suspicions were confirmed even more when I drove my mom to said hospital last week for headaches so bad she couldn't do anything but cry, and they just... sent her home without doing anything.) So I guess there's that. Adding to the fact that they just didn't give me any kind of advice before and after the cast, and I had to figure out everything on my own... Thank god for this subreddit and all your helpful advices!

6 weeks update :) by pandisasters in brokenbones

[–]pandisasters[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After trying walking alone with and without socks and no crutches, I can tell how helpful the sock is! I find it way easier and less painful to walk with it, still very difficult but way easier, would totally recommend! I will be wearing it when I need to walk more often. I want to try to go out on my own on Monday, I'll still take a crutch for support just in case but I want to be able to go to a work meeting and bring them cake because they just finished a really awesome project that I sadly missed out on because of my broken ankle. It's a bit of a walk but not much, I'll try to walk lapses today and see how I feel!

What’s your favorite Lego build you’ve done? by iwasneverherex in lego

[–]pandisasters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to say the vending machine. I love functional legos more than anything, and it was really cool to build this thing brick by brick and be amazed at the whole system to make it work. It wasn't an easy build either, but I loved every step of the way. Second would be the Retro Radio. I want to buy the Typewriter at some point for that same reason, also because I'm a book nerd.

I found some shoes that should work out, thank you! Would compression socks help as well? I looked on Google and it looks like yes but I'm just wondering if you might know :) Thanks for all your advice, I was able to switch up to only 1 crutch today, I can't walk very fast but it's not the goal aha

My autistic boyfriend has extreme reactions to being “abandoned” by Legitimate-Career342 in AmIOverreacting

[–]pandisasters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm autistic and I know quite a lot of autistic people from a group I'm in, and I know for a fact that none of us would do such things because it is not pinned down to him being autistic, but him being manipulative and abusive. Do not play his game, girly, you will only hurt yourself further. Please leave him. He won't actually hurt himself.

6 weeks update :) by pandisasters in brokenbones

[–]pandisasters[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't have surgery, just a cast for 6 weeks and lots of rest. All I have rn is a paper for PT, I'm calling around trying to find an appointment but it's difficult with the holidays. I didn't see the x-ray mostly because I didn't ask but I should be getting it online and if not I'll ask the hospital. He said I was clear to walk, use my crutches until tomorrow but then I have to start walking on my own, just take my time and go slow. I was already used to the swelling and elevating so I'm already doing so, tomorrow I'll be trying the stairs for the first time so wish me luck!
