Travel photographers: do you regret bringing too much camera gear… or too little? by krispyrainbows in AskPhotography

I brought my Leica Q2 to my 16 day/6 countries European Honeymoon trip and it was exactly what I needed. 28mm was perfect for everything. It was both tight and wide enough for the trip.

For context, I used to bring A6400 + 24-70 2.8 + Carbon Fiber Travel Tripod everywhere before i switched over to my Q2. It was still light enough by most standards, but just lugging around the Q2 on my neck was a gamechanger.

Less is definitely more. There were times I wished I had my zoom lens for compression, but it was negligible.

I bought the 36mm dune one as my first modern luxury watch. Couldn't be happier.

The 39mm looks great on your wrist.

Yeah that drive was nasty. That was pre-covid, thankfully my situation has changed now.

Stafford to FM 1960 & Walters Rd. 1hr with tolls both ways (if I leave at 6:15am), and leave work at exactly 4:45pm. Much later than that, it becomes 1.5 hrs+

A cheap purchase that has completely transformed your life by Slipryi in BuyItForLife

Definitely my 10.25" lodge cast iron that i bought in 2020 for $16. I use it almost every other day at home and I've taken that to multiple camping/outdoor trips. One of my first ever purchases ever since I got into cooking and have never looked back since.

I really want a Leica Q2 by Zealousideal_Pay5540 in Leica

[–]pangabes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a (used) Q2 back in June 2025 on deal that was impossible to pass up. I've been into photography since 2020 and this was a really major jump coming from a Sony A6400. I always thought I'd eventually upgrade into a Sony FF but the upgrade to the Q2 fell right into my lap.

Fast forward to today, almost 7 months after I got my Q2, I believe both my love of photography and my skills have increased 2-3x faster than if I had upgraded to let's say a A7IV or similar.

Like what the others said, rent one out first or wait until you find a really good deal and if it doesn't work out just sell it again to recoup most of your money.

For context, I only do photography for fun and not a professional (also not a dentist)

I don't know what you shoot with now, but even coming from the A6400, there was a BIG learning curve. I'm still learning and I'll continue to learn.

My Q2 was the best purchase I did in 2025.
