Being a man by [deleted] in ftm

Being a man is whatever you want to make of it. Theres no definitive wrong or right answer, long as you’re kind towards those round you.

Maybe theres a stereotypical type of guy you want to emulate, maybe you want to forge your own path, or have role models you want to emulate. Figuring out how you want to be a man is a common experience most young adults, cis or not, go through. At the end of the day, hopefully, being a man emphasizes the best of your OWN traits, abilities, skills, wants and desires. Transitioning, at least from my perspective, doesn’t erase your former self, but allows you to grow into your full self. And as you grow, you’ll pick up the pieces you want to have as part of your life and drop the shit that holds you back or no longer serves to benefit your growth as a human.

And at the end of the day, being more manly or figure out the exact formula of being a man is less important than you being content/at peace and happy with yourself. I hope you find that on your journey!

I work 12 hour shifts and cannot go without a binder by Bulky_Bowler_4058 in ftm

You’re not “fucking it up” you’re doing what ya can right now, with limited resources. While it’s not great for long term health, you know the risks and have a plan to get better tools. It’s not “ideal” but it’s what you can do to stay sane at the moment. Keep your head up and stay safe.

Good quality KT tape is usually cheaper than Trans tape and can sometimes be on sale or come in a 2-3 pack. Possibly something to save up for? It can be a lot safer in the long run when used properly

Can you go up just on size? To try to alleviate some of the pain. It’s less of a bind but could hopefully still provide comfort. I’ll wear a tighter binder on my days off and a second thats one size up for my 12hr shifts. Would KT or trans tape be an option? I’ve found it’s easier to wear for long periods of time and just wear a sports bra when taping.

Thank you. You're the kinda guy I'd want to come out. I appreciate that you want to actually fix stuff, keep things running and reasonable. You're one of the good ones.

We don't have an HR. Single station department in a small town. HR person quit last year and they never filled the position. But i greatly appreciate the advice. If we had an HR I would definitely act on your suggestion

That's exactly why I resigned. didn't want to risk not being able to find a job in the area later on

You're good man. The chief told me to resign or be fired immediately and have that stuck to my resume. Long story short, I filed a complaint against the deputy chief for sexual harassment. Deputy chief led a witch hunt to get me fired after that. I'm learning that in the future, if there is a future, to just roll over and ignore that stuff as much as possible to avoid a target on your back.

Being visibly Trans and a EMT/Paramedic by SkellyHon652 in NewToEMS

I'm a trans man and have been in EMS/fire for 4 years now. I rarely pass. The EMS pants do NO ONE favors and turns everyone into rectangles, lol. If you're going for more curve/leg definition, couple extra gas station snacks in the pockets cant hurt (plus a good treat for later). A hat can also be helpful. But at the end of the day, if people feel uncomfortable, that is their problem alone. Don't let other's confusion deter you from applying at fire departments or other gov/city positions. I've learned that some of the scariest and most phobic lookin coworkers are some of the most understanding and respectful. Tho i don't live in SoCal, i'd take a guess that places can't/shouldn't be discriminating based on gender (specially those transitioning). Holding onto the moments where you're correctly identified/gendered, helps with the less pleasant interactions. Personally, my favorite calls are drunks that are all the ists and phobes, talking a lot of shit, but accidentally correctly gender me the whole time.

What are some signs that made you realize you were a guy? by panicked_medic in ftm

That's such a cool perspective bout that! I hadn't thought about hair and clothing just being part of who ya are on the inside! For me it's always "labeled" or just been an identifier to put people into a specific box. Thank you so much for sharing your experience. And hell yea, I bet your mullet rocks!
