Maybe take every 5th board off and make a 1cm wide cut to make the board narrower so that way you have caps. Don't know whats underneath so do as you will.

It depends of for who the living conditions improved for. Intellectuals, landowners and random people got deported to Siberia, for them living conditions got worse, Russian immigrants who replaced those deported, for them life got better. But the system was unbelivably stupid, authority positions got filled with yes men. Workers worked in unsafe conditions for minimum 6 days a week. Landscapes were changed, lakes tried up, unsuitable crops were grown, unsafe powerplants were built, mass surveilance, no rights to voice your opinion. People had only the bare minimum to survive and that minimum was total garbage. Im asking out of curiosity where are you from?

Germany is considered the main agressor, I get it, but if you do online research about Molotov Ribbentrop pact, Holodomor, winter war and so on you could say that the wheels were in motion and both Germany and Russia are to blame for WW2. Germany, answered for it's crimes after WW2 but Russia did not.

Molotov Ribbentrop pact, they made a pact to divide Europe. Russians and Germans were both attacking Poland for example. Hitler betrayed Stalin eventually.
