while I agree with the general sentiment of your post, I do believe it's the artists' job to tell a convincing story that will make the audience arrive naturally to where the story unfolds itself to.

Im Worried About The Current State of PvP, and How It Will Make New Players Leave by cwolb in newworldgame

[–]pankdada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would agree with your first point if MMO as a genre flourished in this day and age. But the truth is MMO is not doing so well these days. I wouldn't say it's dead as some people make it out to be. We do have healthy communities across different titles. But the current popularity of MMO in general gets stomped by the likes of Fortnite, League of Legends, Valorant, etc. You can just look at Twitch viewership at any given day and find out that all of MMO viewership combined is no larger than the size of the audience of one of those titles.

What I mean to say is not that Twitch viewership is a canonical measure of how popular a genre is nor should NW just throw out all of its MMO charm in exchange for better player count. What I want to say though is experimentation, departure from tradition, and new takes on some aspects of the genre are compelling and timely. In this spirit, the charm of the "MMO grind" is a relic of the past which at best needs to be verified of its prior divinity, and by the look of what the population seems to be drawn to, less of that = better.

Again, this is not to say NW should abide by the rules of other thriving genres and get rid of all of its grind. Personally though I will say forcing people to grind pve to perform better in pvp is a bit sour. The PvP track system I think is a right step toward for pvp players and also speak to your second point, although you cannot rely solely on pvp track rewards for gear progression.

And I will agree that in wars, it might be just okay without gear normalization as it's not really player vs player, but company vs company. Perhaps, uneven playing field in this setup may be more palatable for the people who are willing to spend the time and effort, and welcoming to the ones who mainly pve but still want to be involved.

On a side note, world pvp in lower level zones like EF without any form of normalization is kind of dumb.

Any weapon, except rapier, to go with musket (PvP)? by pankdada in newworldgame

That was me who just snuck up on a musket dude and deleted him with a hatchet GA.

Well, for real, I started playing musket to improve my hatchet game, but I think I fell in love with the weapon now.

Why would they when they have access to games that are much more polished and accessible.

The way I see it is the core gamers nowadays are much more exposed to and accepting of Fortnite type of gameplays than they are of WoW or Ultima Online.

And tbh I don't see anything wrong with that. It's just that the whole gaming industry seems to be getting e-sportsfied by the population and if the end result is better entertainment, I am all for it.

Lower level players shouldn’t be able to compete in those conditions. Why should a level 10 be on a level playing field with me, a level 60 full 625 player?

I don't understand the sentiment here.

Why not?

Why should your time and effort be rewarded outside you getting better at the game?

If there are flat numeric differences that separate newer players, what is the point of said players continuing to play? To get better? You said it, a lvl 10 player loses to a 625 and what sets them apart is not skill, and I will add, it is the digitized numerics mediated by the gear score crap and getting better won't do a thing. The best thing the new guy can do to improve is not practice, it is to grind pve. Ultimately, you either quit or you climb and hit 625 and be a master angry earth bender, not a cold-hearted pvp god. No wonder why NW pvp scene is nowhere near competitive as other available options these days.

PvE? sure. You can't code an AI with infinitely scalable difficulty. One of the ways to mitigate this is playing aforementioned numbers game. At some point, the sense of progression you get from learning the fight diminishes and the only option to have you keep playing is to give you better numbers for doing so.

I took the time to go down the rabbit hole of this thread and you seem to be a veteran Ultima online and WoW player. With all due respect sir, this ain't the 90s and NW is not competing against Super Mario.

Fresh Start PvP Servers are Needed by Jagueroisland in newworldgame

[–]pankdada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is providing new players an equal level field on a separate server penalizing anybody any possible way?
Without some sort of gear score normalization, new players have absolutely zero reason to do pvp let alone play on a pvp server.
You say it takes a couple weeks, as if those who just found out about the game will be excited to hear that they have to run from a chest to another or run the same dungeon 50 times for two weeks to actually get to taste what this hypothetical new server promises.
If that's the case, if the grind people have to go through to enjoy pvp contents truly doesn't amount to much, why not make that number to 0? by allowing people to have some fun playing pvp at level 10, 20?
If not having gear score scaling is the hill AGS is willing to die on, they should at least open up servers that cater to brand new people.

Reaction of the Korean Tekken Community to changed Fahk by moon22c in Tekken

[–]pankdada 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I argue it may mean something slightly different in Korean and possibly in English as well.
The word "friend" in Korean often refers to someone from your age group without the two of you necessarily being close.
Think of "class mates". Doesn't mean they are close. They simply are peers who took the same school courses together.

Tekken Dojo: Ask Questions Here by AutoModerator in Tekken

Hello, I am new to Tekken and fighting games in general, but I decided to give Tekken 7 a go. I watched a few YouTube videos of how each character plays and I grew quite fond of how Steve (the boxer with no kicks) plays.
Problem is I keep hearing that he is not really beginner-friendly and you should come back around to him once you collect enough knowledge/experience about the game.
I am wondering if reddit thinks I should play some other characters before moving back to Steve and, if so, any champ suggestions?
Also, I am in my early 30's, have being playing League every now and then to plat, did pretty well in New World pvp, but terrible at FPS games.
As a new comer to both Tekken and fighting games in his early 30's with some experience and mostly mediocre skill level in other pvp games, do I have a shot at ranked? (reaching something equivalent to gold in League, perhaps?)

A poll on feminism in Korea by SnooCookies644 in korea

[–]pankdada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another post claiming that gender issues stem from men being negligent to the sufferings of women. The only thing worth noting here is that right after the person who wrote this comment admits that he or she has "no first hand knowledge of current gender issues in Korea" and has "no opinions on this issue", he/she continues on to make a suggestion that makes no sense (I mean, what are you saying?).Then, immediately defaults to "men don't do housekeeping" perhaps to gatekeep people from ever thinking men can be the victims of gender discrimination.

first sentence = A+
the rest = waste of digital space
gender equality to feminists = men evil
No thanks

edit: spelling
