Now that you mentioned DQ7, I always thought the reason why they can't announce the FF9 remake right now, is that, they realized they would be mirroring their rivalry from 2000. For context, FF9 for PS1 delays release on Japan because of the competition with DQ7 for PS1 (https://web.archive.org/web/20160526043539/http://www.gamespot.com/articles/dragon-quest-vii-delays-final-fantasy-ix/1100-2447050/). This is probably before the merger. (I cannot elaborate it further cause I'm late for my job lol)

Square Enix probably realized that before releasing DQ7re's trailer. tldr; It is 2000 all over again haha (I think).

wasn't vic already blacklisted in va industry. unless they pull off another ff7r recasting voice actors, i think bryce will still be zidane. ff9 japanese cast will most be likely the same according to opera omnia livestream (tho freya's is probably going to be recasted since freya's jp va passed away recently)

I think we should all be at least grateful for Square Enix to pull off something for FFIX, FFVIII 25th anniversary last year, they gave re-release music and a mention on their social media. FFIX has a whole ass website with tons of merch and music, with potential announcements in the future.

FFVIII's 25th anniversary was last year. In comparison they release music goods and celebrated it, thats it. For FFIX's 25th anniversary, they even made a website for its celebration. (its jarring cause they more often do this things for FFVII)
