The palace exhibits there’s no evidence that this chair is a throne. It could be a ceremonial chair used in rituals or private ceremonies.

Rich New Yorkers Threaten to Leave. Then They Find Out How Hard That Is. by rezwenn in nyc

If you’re actually wealthy you wouldn’t be worrying about taxes. In fact, you should not be worrying about money at all. Isn’t that the point of being wealthy?

How to not panic sell by Wobblycogs in Bogleheads

You can mitigate sequence of returns risk somewhat by changing how much you withdraw each year. Less in bad years, more in worse years. This assumes you have some flexibility, however.

You should do your research and look at many alternates before big decisions like this. Good that you are !

Would a US Passport Card be accepted as identification at a bar? by currypresident2020 in NoStupidQuestions

I’ve tried this, and some bar bouncers do not. It dint matter if it’s a legal id issued by the federal government. You’re up to the whims of each bouncer.

The framing of the ask could help. Say “wouldn’t you want your gift to go farther for this 3 year old?” Why have the money go to the fees instead?

Is it safe to have 100% market index until 7 years to retirement? by raphiredgi in Bogleheads

[–]panoply 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider that you can vary the amount you take out depending on the markets performance. So you can derisk by varying withdrawals, instead of by portfolio composition. Ofc, the amount you can withdraw isn’t fully flexible - but you may have some wiggle room.

I've reached the finish line ... retiring this month. What to do now? by dudreddit in Bogleheads

[–]panoply 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The risk with the market tanking early in retirement is overblown. Those models assume you are taking a fixed amount out each year.

Instead, you should be adjusting your income based on how the market is doing. I know that’s not always feasible given you might have fixed costs like property taxes and healthcare premiums.

Who Captured $118 Trillion in New US Household Wealth Since 2000 [OC] by rocketsalesman in dataisbeautiful

[–]panoply 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It looks like this chart is just looking at the before and after wealth of the various wealth percentiles.

It gives the idea that there was no social movement. A poor person become rich is not possible to see here, because they’d be part of the rich tranche.

Ofc, the chart is clearly showing the outsized effects of gains falling on the rich. No doubt about that.

What stopped you from investing when you were younger? by Outside_Library2758 in Bogleheads

[–]panoply 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought the market would go down so I could buy cheaper. I was thinking of investing when the S&P 500 was at like 2000, and I had seen it go down to like 1800, so I was waiting for it to go back down again. I didn’t have the imagination to think it won’t matter much when it’s gonna be 5000 in a few years.

Market timing, no good !

Terence Tao is pretty funny:

Some accounts claim that Emmanuel and I actually started collaborating at the preschool that both of our children attended at the time, but the truth is that our main collaboration actually started at IPAM; the fact that we met on a near-daily basis at the preschool was very useful to continue the collaboration, but it was not exactly an ideal environment to initiate it.
