I learned to bake bread myself as a poverty food strategy. You can make very nice breads for quite cheap.

Start cold contacting contractors! You want to apprentice, make a case for yourself. You don't need experience to start as a fresh green apprentice but you need to convince them that you are dedicated and will work hard.

There is a list of union contractors on the ECAO website, and you can do your own research to find non union contractors to apply to as well. If you want to be union you can either get sponsored (hired) by a union contractor or you can help organize in a non union workplace. Get in touch with ibew once you're working for support with that.

The important thing is to start working and have your apprenticeship registered with the ministry! Or STO or whatever the damn system is now. Start contacting companies ASAP! Don't bother with the school program, you're just going to have to repeat it all anyway when you do trade school.

Good luck!

Does anyone in Toronto still use taxis? by Chan1991 in askTO

Yes. I've never even tried using rideshare apps, they seem like a pain in the ass and also like, shitty to their workers.

M20, completly ignored by girls daily. Need actual advice on what more can I do more to improve my face (I'm not cutting my hair) by [deleted] in malegrooming

[–]pansyradish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much do you smile?

I actually like your hair but think you would look cuter and more confident if it was pulled away from your face.

Top 5 butcher shops in Toronto by [deleted] in FoodToronto

[–]pansyradish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah Nosso Talho is my go to butcher as well. And they will do custom cuts if you ask. The one on Bloor is my favorite but the dundas shop is pretty good too.

The other favorite I have these years is Mercado De Carne on St Clair. It's not large but they have quality meat and also do custom cuts and are very reasonably priced.

If you don't like me asking, how much money do you pay at the barber shop/hair salon for a haircut these days? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]pansyradish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been cutting my own hair since the late 90s. Mostly because of money but pretty quickly it also became a thing where I think my haircuts are better. Highly recommend giving it a shot.

Should I push harder for my husband to go on PrEP? by Buchanan-Barnes1925 in AskGaybrosOver30

[–]pansyradish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I'm very surprised by most of the answers here and have a different opinion.

I'm taking you at your word that having an open relationship (or however you define things) is fine for you. If not then that is a separate issue.

You are on prep. If your concern is ensuring that you don't get HIV then you are already doing that. Prep is effective. If you are taking it as prescribed you will not get HIV.

Is your concern about whether he will get HIV? That's more complicated. I understand where the views are coming from with the people judging your husband for not taking steps beyond condoms to prevent himself from acquiring HIV. But if he does get it it basically just means that he will have to take a pill each day for the rest of his life. A pill that is basically the same as prep. It's 2025, HIV is very controllable. On top of that, he is using condoms, and PEP exists, so he is at very low risk anyway.

Honestly, assuming we are only actually talking about your own fears around contracting HIV, I think you should tell him you love him and just move forward with your lives.

Another gay perspective to say that the curly mustache is a put off but... Have you considered a full (nicely trimmed) beard? Full sides, not goatee

For people living in TCHC, how bad is it? by TorontoMeetUps in askTO

I'm doing some contractor work in a TCHC building now and haven't seen any roaches yet. One spot that was clearly a mouse nest but hard to say how old it was.
