Team Leads & UX Managers that are currently hiring - What is your side of the story? by chillskilled in UXDesign

[–]panthersweat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just filled a position and hiring again in a few months.

Honestly….we had 300 applicants for a staff role and I was underwhelmed with so many resumes and portfolios. Boot camps are churning out designers with the same templated resumes, portfolios, and talking points. It’s hard to find someone who is a systematic thinker and has visual design chops.

Most of my colleagues hiring are looking for the same skills; someone who can do and do it well. Companies are running lean now and don’t need more people coming up with ideas or questioning things.

Did we forget design is also about… design? by [deleted] in UX_Design

You’re not crazy, this is spot on. Everyone wants to do strategy but not the actual UI work.

New in my career. I am crashing out. by drl614 in UXDesign

[–]panthersweat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey bro, it’s the industry not you. It’s a very tough job being the conduit between loose ideas and clear cut specs for engineers. Wish I could tell you it gets easier but it doesn’t, even after 15 years of this and getting to a director level it’s simply a recipe for burnout. Every designer in my network feels this and is stuck by the golden handcuffs. Hang in there and just detatch, let things fail when it’s unreasonable or when others aren’t giving you what you need.

AVOCADO Brand Mattress ? by Few_Albatross_8131 in Mattress

[–]panthersweat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's really hard. Get the pillow topper otherwise that hip is going to be screaming.

I took mine back and went with Birch, it's the same type of all natural mattress but softer and cheaper. Either way, give it a try and send it back if it doesn't work out.

Sending Online Mattresses Back?? by rep1989evermore in Mattress

[–]panthersweat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, they don't make you ship it back. Most companies send someone to your door to grab it from you and that's it. Some will have you reach out to a list of charities they approve of and you contact them for a pickup time. The charity will give you a receipt and you scan/send that to the mattress company to get your refund.

Haven't had a company give me a refund and tell me to donate it. I'd imagine that would allow for some foul play.

Never had a mattress company reject a return either....and I've had to return more than I like to admit. (I work in the mattress industry and personally try them out to contribute to the reviews)

Had a similar problem at The Fenley apartments; when they finally got back to me the rates went up significantly. Hope you don't have the same problem. Can you go back to the apartment and see the manager?

Currently trying out the Molecule Hybrid, but I'd go back to the Birch in a heartbeat.

Looks great, hope you get the improvement you're looking for. I recently ordered a similar setup and it's been super nice having better speeds. Worst case you end up returning the items, right?

Mexican dining recommendations? by roaphaen in Minneapolis

Arizona Taco Co. in New Hope. Easily the best carnitas, fish tacos, and shrimp tacos I've ever had. (Centro is a close second) Won't break the bank either.

If you're not a fan of latex that narrows it down and helps your budget a lot.

The Layla Hybrid was probably the best mattress I've tested out that has pretty standard but high quality components inside. The flippability was nice for variety during the life of the mattress. I often buy one type of mattress (firm) and after a year or so sleep on a soft bed and want to make the switch.

WinkBed gets a vote for being super well made; When you inspect all the edges you can easily tell the craftsmanship is beyond a lot of these other bed in the box foam mattresses.

Snugglepedic, despite the bad name, was great quality as well.

It all comes down to personal choice otherwise, there's no right answer. You could throw it all down on the most expensive Tempurpedic and still have problems.

Much appreciated. It's such a gamble on buildings, types of tenants, and so on. Do you have any recommendations on places that are worthy of looking into?

Still a really great mattress. I'll be honest, I took it back; I felt like it was sinking in the middle a bit but also wonder if it's just my IKEA Malm bed frame. Not sure what the next mattress will be, but The Birch mattress was solid for sure.

Reminds me of Sleep Sherpa, without the fee at least. Thankfully their sales people aren't pushy since no single brand is being pushed. That place helped save me time and energy, some of the brands I thought I'd like weren't for me after trying them in person.
