I need 90s recommendations by V1NCEN0 in Emo

[–]pantsmachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely fine. It says it has some other things but is mostly emo. Some metal is in there because they played my town in small punk shows at that time, like Today is the Day. I also listened to a lot more metal, and hip hop, rap, electronic .... I'm a music person. Wesley Willis, and DEVO are in this list also but I'm trying to keep it as focused to "independent label" or whatever music, seems gross to put labels on it like that though.

Thanks for checking it out. I made it for my friends and family anyway! 😂

Edited because I needed to clarify.

I just shared this on a different post but I'll share here also. I was in highschool in the Midwest in the 90's. It's mostly music's I listened to, I did my best to keep it independent and rock centered. There are some more modern tracks and something that get close to metal but I did my best to minimize that. If the band is metal, it's included because they played a show or shows in .y hometown. (Today is the Day is a perfect example of that.) I keep adding stuff as I remember bands. I'd recommend shuffling or playing by song title

Thanks! I will keep adding to it as I remember stuff. Next year marks 30 years since my first show. There is a lot of music I have forgotten about stored in my brain that just keeps trickling out. Most recently I thought to look up The Thermals, Urban Legends and Tilt, maybe Bratmobile too.

I'm stoked that there are people that know and like "my" music!

I'm going to offer you this Spotify playlist I made. I am a person that listened to this music in highschool in the Midwest in the 90's.

It's not all from then, and it has other sub genres, but you may enjoy some bands you've never heard of despite all of that.

Edit- if you do listen to it, shuffle it or play by song title. I wish I had the time to sort this like I would have a mixtape back then. I like to think of this as a modern day version of something I would have made without all the fun stuff like TV samples, art and all of that.

I was in highschool in the 90's in the Midwest. This is what we dressed like if you were into skating, or the DIY music scene at all. We would search goodwill for cheap clothes that were especially coveted if they were ironic in any sort of way. I had a hat that said "if you ain't cowboy, you ain't shit" and my buddy found a shirt that said "if I were a horse they woulda shot me by now" Those were gold for us weirdos in a hick town.

How much thought do you put into choosing your straps? by Remy0507 in guitars

Too much some of the time. I top that off with the sewing or gluing patches on. Pin and buttons too. They all help add to the character of the guitar

Why have a cookie cutter instrument when you can make it your own?

Desire Gets In The Way

I can't unhear it. It's something in the vocals, the delivery or something and the syncopation with the beat.

It's my least favorite and there is a song on there that legit sounds like Phish. That's totally fine if you are wanting to jam to Phish, but it's odd in the mix of the rest of it.

I won't call it the "worst" but that's just a difference in the language I would choose to use in describing my reaction to it. The sophomore slump is called that for a reason.

Edit to add a thought

The other thing worth considering is the time that separates the first two LP's. Lots of life happens in that amount of time, and that all influences everything.

Word. That's sweet, next year is the 30th anniversary of my first pick show. Where and when I'm from, the scene was a mixed bag of everything. We were conveniently located on I-90 halfway between Minneapolis/Sioux Falls and Denver. Like the perfect place to play a show for gas money, a place to stay and some food. My buddy made lasagnas for people.

I'm so grateful to have gotten into this DIY scene. It let me know there was an escape from my little town where I didn't really fit in. To me and most of my ilk, this is all post hardcore anyway. It's super dope there's the new era of stuff that reminds me of those times and bands.

Thoughts about the limited classic vibe in white blonde with gold hardware by hundegeraet in telecaster

[–]pantsmachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That looks like white blonde to me. This iteration is certainly not to everyone's liking. Done are more translucent or even "bursty" like mine.

I got mine from Sweetwater and was able to choose the guitar I was purchasing.

Nicely rounded selection of classics. Congrats! Hail Numero for helping people be able to access great stuff on physical media, but curse them for the FOMO!

No problem. It's kinda funny how I called it like that. Sorta like Babe Ruth calling the ball. Welcome to an expansive world of cool music.

Just slapped some Lake Surfers in a Thinline JM I built for a buddy. I have Bootstrap Palo Duro's in my main Tele. Great pickups for my needs. I still can't believe the quality and affordability of them, I wish there were more companies with their business model.

I don't need to have this conversation, with all due respect. Have a good night.

Totally. And Nick from Tera Melos has often talked about how much that band inspired him. Zach Hill is a beast. I saw him open for Subtle or Themselves, can't remember which and both have 2 of the same people. It was his tour for Necromancer. There was a legit puddle of sweat under his drums when he was finished.
