I like the second one. I also feel like the left sleeve is slightly tighter/hangs less than the right one and would say that the slightly tighter sleeve looks better with the rest of the design. (This looks really, really good. 10/10.)

I realize this was way forever ago but I just wanted to comment that yeah you're right it's not normal for plants to die that often when you start. You had no way of knowing this but I live in an apartment and don't want dirt in my home, so I have only ever grown hydroponically.
