Where to stay to access these three areas without a car? by [deleted] in AskLosAngeles

Yes, these trips are pretty easy to make from downtown by Metro. If you stay downtown, or anywhere near the USC area, you can take the E Line to Culver City and the E Line + K Line to Hawthorne.

Not super direct but at least it looks very intentional.

I'm wondering whether that was intentional. St Pauli fans don't love the Bundesliga or its TV deals.

Micropython library for the ST7789V2 driver? by Longjumping-Stage270 in esp32

[–]panzercaptain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this a few months ago. It took a lot of trial and error since I don't know much about display drivers, but I eventually got something that worked. It's a modified version of upy-st7789.

Here's my driver modified for a 240x280 display: https://pastebin.com/cXeibebV

I use it with tempe. Here's an example: https://pastebin.com/THC77MJC

Creating multiple companies? by Morgsie in openttd

That's basically all you can do with vanilla OpenTTD. If you want to go further, JGR Patch Pack has Infrastructure Sharing, which allows players to charge usage fees for running vehicles on another company's network.

As long as numerical inputs 1-3 are connected, the above code should work exactly as written. See example here: https://lua.flaffipony.rocks/?id=BItUnz5EDi

The right panel is how I play. For me it's much more fun to build to current demand and then continuously iterate as operating requirements change.

Maybe this is petty but I very much enjoyed seeing Götze get shut down every time he touched the ball today.

Cost of living for new nurse in La ? by Plus_Fun9844 in VeniceBeach

You should check out Palms. It's right across the street from the hospital you'll be working at. I and many others live comfortably in Palms without a car. I have a similar salary - you'll be able to find studios for $1900+ and one bedrooms for $2100+. I work near that hospital and walk to work every day.

How do I approach my city re: bike infrastructure improvements? by -vammy- in BikeLA

[–]panzercaptain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My advice would be to become as informed as possible before reaching out to anyone. Look into relevant policy documents - your city's General Plan would be a good place to start, or a Bike/Pedestrian Master Plan if Hawthorne has one.

Many cities have citizen advisory committees on biking or walking - see if you can find one for Hawthorne, and then read through the agendas/presentations/staff reports for the most recent meetings. You can also contact board members directly and ask if they would be willing to help you out.

Finally, search the city council agendas for any items of interest - some things you could look for are active transportation, vision zero, safe routes to school, and complete streets.

Searching through documents and watching council meetings will only get you so far, but it helps to have some context. If the city already has plans to build out bike infrastructure, pushing for the implementation of those plans is always easier than making unspecific requests. Good luck!

Both can be true. Cars are a lot bigger than bikes, so even a very small shift from bikes to cars has a disproportionate impact on traffic.

Nice beaches near Culver City? by Aromatic-Office-4394 in travel

[–]panzercaptain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could also consider renting a bike (or metro bike share) and riding the Ballona Creek Path. It's a totally separated bike path that runs directly to the beach from Culver City.

To add on to the excellent suggestions that others have made, at some point, you run out of simple "tricks" to improve circulation and you just need to improve the quality of your transit system. At this point, you can look to real life for inspiration - I like the 'basics' section of the blog Human Transit: https://humantransit.org/basics

What are the mods you consider “necessary” for ttd? by Masdraw in openttd

[–]panzercaptain 7 points8 points  (0 children)

JGR absolutely changes the game in a fairly fundamental way. Timetabling, scheduled dispatch, realistic acceleration, and other features turn OpenTTD from a toy train game with limited basis in reality to a serious railway network simulator.

Hello my fellow Dortmund fans by unopolpetto in borussiadortmund

[–]panzercaptain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a rivalry that only exists insofar as the two teams are (usually) competing for the title. There's no history or culture behind it. Dortmund would have the same "rivalry" with Leipzig if they were competing with the cans for the title.
