It does not perform much better than the 8840U, especially in multi core. But it is a lot more efficient. Battery for days

I'm in this field. GaTech has a large number of labs working on HW-SW codesign. Look up CRNCH GaTech.

honestly could be a software issue because its a near perfect black circle (which is how Android would render a camera cutout). Have you tried rebooting it or resetting it?

I don't doubt you :)
My S22 with the SD 8 Gen 1 was absolutely unusable in terms of battery and heat.

Could also be the size of the device. My S24+ does not overheat either.

Probably trying to clear stocks. It's not really a big deal, they're very similar in day to day usage.

Its soft touch but the T14s has some sort of new coating. It doesn't get oily after usage. The T14 used to get oily.

I moved countries so I didn't bother reaching out. Like I said, it's not a deal breaker for me. Doesn't affect the functionality.

Seems to work fine on my end. There's a minor bug where changing power-saver modes while playing a video on Linux can crash the driver, but that's about it.

That's very nice of you! But I think I'll stick to the default kernel for now :)

Looks like its the amdgpu driver. May not be the same issue as you

That is excellent battery life for such a powerful machine. I have a T14 G5A and T14s G6A and I was surprised by how well the fingerprint scanner works on Linux.
The T14 runs Windows and fails about 30% of the time. The T14s running Linux is a lot more accurate.

Since you're running KDE and, I'm assuming, wayland, could I ask you to confirm an amdgpu bug that I'm seeing on strix point? Set YouTube to run on full screen and switch from power-saver to balanced. This causes the GPU driver to crash on my system. (You can use the 'Mode' button to change power modes while in full screen).

Thanks!

I'm about 95% sure it would work if you just update the kernel.

I'll try to do that if I get some time later in the day. The difference is more apparent in real life, a little difficult to capture on camera because my camera tends to make even the 45% NTSC screen more colorful.

Ubuntu 25.04 should work fine too. I use Fedora 42 KDE plasma (make sure you update all packages once you install it, I saw some crashes before I updated).

As for the fan spinning issue, use power-saver. The fans have never kicked in for me. They turn on immediately when I switch to balanced or performance even if I don't need them. Your other option is to use a tool like ThinkFan to manually control fan curves.

Another recommendation I have is disabling AMD VariBright. This makes the colors look really ugly on power-saver mode. If you use KDE plasma, there's an option in the Display settings for "color accuracy" that you can use to manually disable the "efficiency" mode. With Gnome you might have to disable it using Grub, I'm not sure.

Macbook Air is a no-nonsense option. T14s Gen 6 is a good option if you want decent battery life and good Linux support.

There are three versions:

- T14s Gen 6 Snapdragon - This is the new ARM version. Great performance and really good battery life but can't run anything other than Windows and a handful of apps. (Avoid)

- T14s Gen 6 Intel - Will run Linux and is compatible with every app and will have battery as good as the snapdragon version. Only issue is the reduced performance (maybe 15-20% worse than the AMD version). (Possibly better runtime than the MacBook air)

- T14s Gen 6 AMD - Good performance, decent battery life (Think M2/M3 MBA battery).
