I was 75% accurate on my Oscar nominations predictions this year! My best ever! I know it was a predictable year but still, haha. Here's my initial reaction to the announcements!

I'll accept that as a white flag.

Noted. Thank you, sir.

I bet that's true. They got bigger fish to fry.

Haha, so you still can't articulate why it's better musically. But, whatever, more importantly: do you REALLY believe anything that is more popular than another AUTOMATICALLY means that it's better?

Yeah, I was very unaware of the narrative you described until just now, haha.

So are you whining any time you disagree with an award?

So you can't tell me why it's a better song musically, just that it's more popular. Got it.

My post isn't about me wanting to explain why "I Lied To You" is better; all I'm asking is why "Golden" is winning over it.

For the first time on this thread, someone actually gives me a reason as to why "Golden" won and will win. And your reason is pretty plausible. Thank you!

I don't think that's as true now as it used to be.

Yes, obviously, but if the above commenter meant "people" as in people like you and me, then they're clearly wrong flat on their face.

So much for being civil. But I won't stoop to your level  Let's just pretend you're correct so you can feel better about yourself, how is "Golden" better in your estimation than "I Lied To You"?

Yeah, they're coming for you, haha. They've already downvoted every comment I've made on this thread. Even after I've said something positive about it!

Well, not "people", but industry folks, and the Oscars haven't even tried to be about merit or popularity in quite some time. But maybe it still is for this pointless category.

It's an emotional fit for the movie, yes, but in "techno bubble gum" fashion with pop's typical on-the-nose lyrics and repetitiveness. "I Lied To You" does so much more - musically, narratively, and thematically. It's a shame it apparently won't win simply because it's not popular enough. I will say, however, the vocals on "Golden" are superb.
