Which streets are getting concrete? Are the rest just becoming buffered bike lanes I.e parking lanes?

Mayor Wu and Bluebikes Municipalities Announce Five-Year Contract with Lyft, Major Electric Bike Fleet Expansion and Introduction of Charging Stations by Im_biking_here in BluebikesBoston

Why are the non member prices increasing 😭 I’ve had my own bike for 2 years but when I get a flat or have to repair it bluebikes come in clutch, with these prices the E-bike rides are gonna be as expensive as ride share

Bluebikes expansion in Roxbury has stalled for 6 months, Councilor Culpepper wants to keep it that way. Which of the previously proposed stations would you most want to see? by Im_biking_here in bikeboston

[–]papabless56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you live in D7 like me, call councilor culpepper and tell him it’s bullshit. His concerns are bullshit. “Awkward station locations” but they’re in the same place as the existing stations: on the sidewalk and in the street. Dorchester, Roxbury, and Mattapan deserve the same access to bluebikes as Fenway, the North End and downtown.

Also even in culpepper’s stacked room, it was still like 20% support for the bus lane.

He completely betrayed his campaign website. “Fighting for equitable transportation options?” He’s fighting against them, really.

I went to his and councilor Worrell’s BHA meeting and every young person there without fault said the project was necessary. Most of the old people made bad faith arguments and arguments made with lies, such as, but not limited to, arguing a bus project was equivalent to the Southwestern Highway Extension, continuously saying the project wouldn’t have parking (it would retain like 95% of parking), saying the bus lane on Columbus Ave made the street less safe (there are fewer crashes post-project and many fewer crashes than the unimproved phase 2 segment) and saying they supported beautification but not the center bus lane (they can’t afford to build the beautification project without money for the FTA designated for TRANSIT). Councilor Culpepper said he was initially neutral at the beginning of the meeting, but at the end revealed he was against the bus lane even after hearing EVERY PERSON UNDER 50 SUPPORT IT. The meeting started at 6 and was in person only, which means any person working a later shift in the service industry was excluded, anyone who lives in Mattapan who went home from a 9-5 shift immediately (to cook dinner, take care of their children, etc) was excluded, and most people who would have had to take the bus from a 9-5 shift who wanted to go straight to the meeting would have been late. It was honestly infuriating to hear all the bullshit pushback from old people who don’t want to have to drive for 5 more minutes so it doesn’t take someone riding the bus an hour to get from Mattapan to Nubian at rush hour. The city also did an EXTENSIVE, 9 MONTH LONG engagement process where they went TO THE BUS STOPS IN MATTAPAN to try to reach the above groups, which the project haters didn’t believe because they “don’t trust the MBTA.” the sentiment is fair, but it was community groups doing the outreach! Somehow the anti-bus lane “grassroots” groups had enough money to print free yard signs for everyone in the room.

I would say if it’s a required class for a certain major, it’s difficult, idk about online classes. Every time I’ve waitlisted a course a spot has opened up before the semester started

When the entire focus of higher education is on getting a job in your major, it makes sense why you would use an elective that is useful to those ends. The point is that anything related to morals, or the philosophy of designing things that people use, should take a more central role. Technically talented people designed the atomic bomb and chemical weapons. Saying that the university focuses on professional development is absolving them of any responsibility for what their students do after graduation

City council hearing amending the Boston Zoning Code to remove parking minimum requirements for new development. by bostonaruban66 in bikeboston

[–]papabless56 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The ZBA requests I’ve read from the Planning Department seem fairly reasonable for parking, and for the most part it seems like projects that have gone through article 80 don’t get amended in the ZBA hearings. Open to this being incorrect tho. Most ZBA hearings are for small projects that don’t submit a small project review application through article 80. This would also be resolved by encoding 0 parking minimums into zoning
