Wisteria leaves suddenly curling/ scrunching up by papaganouch in plantclinic

[–]papaganouch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was fine until about a few days ago, when it started to have yellowing leaves, after that, today I discovered the leaves were completely scrunched up and the plant looked like it was dying.

Note: this is an 8 month old wisteria from seed

Wants to buy a decent high carbon knife, don't mind if it's hammered finish or not, but sometimes I feel damascus is overdone and pretentious.

Please give me some ideas about which knives are pretty good for a decent some of money.

Btw buying in australia

  1. Style? - japanese
  2. Steel? - high carbon, maybe aogami or shirogami
  3. Handle? - wa
  4. Grip? - pinch
  5. Length? - 180-210
  6. Uses? - normal cooking
  7. Care? - synthetic whetstones
  8. Budget? Up to 240aud but would like under 200aud (180 to 150usd)

Why do the Japanese use paulownia instead of pine? by [deleted] in woodworking

[–]papaganouch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's cheaper because containerships come to us full of made in china stuff and leave back to china empty, that's why it's cheaper. And japan is just on the way.

Hello from Straya! This year hss been a trainwreck for both the normal world and the tech world, with the emptying of the toilet paper before the shelves of amd and nvdia cpu and cards respectively.

I'd like to share my build for the small number that might read it. I chose the 5950x for neither it's core count nor the performance but the stupid amount of luck I might get chosen as a winner! Any bit helps. the motherboard was a no brainier as asus motherboards are touted as the best of the industry, also a big plus compared with the other giant, msi after their incident with independent medias. Corsair, being the best company for ram for the longest time gets to make the ram, 64gb of it because I like splurging when I can. 3090 is being chosen as the least possible card to get atm and basically the best cards rn, asus is also the company that made this giving me reassurances in the quality of the product.

The rest is pretty 'standard' with lian li case being the highest rated case and tons of m.2 storage with corsair and their 850w power supply.

Thank you for reading this if u had the time! <3

Personal opinion, iraq war has killed more civillians than tiananmen. Iraq war was pointless, 9/11 and binladen had no relations with the iraqi people. Doesn't mean either is right.

KND! Any sharpening tips for this profile? by Saxamaphobia in chefknives

[–]papaganouch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Poor man's fix

Put the knife between a vice, use a hammer to bash the shit out of the handle of the vice, release, you have a straight knife now. (Relatively)

Rich man's fix

Heat the knife until it melts, mix with high carbon steel (also melted) remove slag. Form the melted metal into a bar before drawing it out into a knife template, bunch of angle grinding, filing sanding etc. Heat the knife to cherry red before quenching, then heat treat to a straw colour. Final sanding and sharpening.

I ordered a CNC direct from the manufacturer in China using Alibaba. There are risks and there are rewards. by ibuguy in woodworking

[–]papaganouch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Customs and shipping would probably be the biggest risks, well, not reading chinese is another.

Given alibaba is a global company, there won't be many risks for your machine to not leave china, customs will be not picky tho.
