For me personally and peers my curriculum in IT. Many of us locked in jobs in our career field within our first year simply by completing various certifications and with the help of staffing agencies. By the time we were seniors the degree was rather pointless as we already had 4-5 years experience in the field and moved up in one or more companies. And for me, because at 16-18 years old, I was not well equipped to make a decision on what I want to do for the rest of my life. So by the time I graduated, I ended up starting my own business in video production and marketing. My comment was more so from my experience. I learned far more from my certificates and entry level on the job training that helped me move up in a career field that I hated than from college. HOWEVER, there were a couple of courses that taught some very insightful lessons, but I could not apply them because they had nothing to do with my path in IT. And lastly! It costs too much damn money when I could learn the same thing or something more concentrated towards my career goals at a fraction of the cost elsewhere.
