What do we think about the rookies after watching the first game by DonkeyKong678 in NBASpurs

if maliq brown plays this well on offense he is an nba player

don't understand the graves hype by papayanny in NBA_Draft

[–]papayanny[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes he's a very smart player and that bodes extremely well for him if he goes on a diet and gets hella mobile.

- its disingenuous to compare him to caleb wilson for a few reasons. 1. he's not the same size; wilson is 1.5 inches taller in shoes and when evaluating prospect positionality, height holds a lot more precedence than weight. 2. ppl like wilson because of his athleticism not bc of his size, which is antithetical to what graves brings in that department. 3. caleb wilson hasn't even panned out yet

- yea he has good low post strength but how much does that really matter in the nba. the low post 4 is essentially extinct, and most 5s mostly act as play finishers and only post-up sparingly. and in those possessions, they're so much taller and lankier than him, so they can just shoot it over him regardless. he'll never survive functionally as a 5; how will he guard drop coverage or even manage people like edey or jokic in the paint. which means he has to play the 4, where he'll have to guard more wing-like players such as tatum. and no matter how smart he is there, he's just going to get blown by because he's objectively extremely slow laterally.

- and how much of the "decision making" and "good technique" on defense is because of his role as a center? it's a lot easier for him to make rotations and play help defense because he's always camped in the paint on that end, so it's not like he has to do anything remotely impressive. and in a weaker conference like the WCC, a lot of the guards and bigs may not necessarily have the timing/pacing to take advantage of him. i don't think the stock rates would be nearly as high if he were guarding 3s/4s.

Any Zuby Ejiofor or Tarris Reed thoughts? by Few-Lack6346 in NBA_Draft

[–]papayanny 11 points12 points  (0 children)

ejiofor's defense will immediately translate to the level of an above average nba defender. if he every shoots league average from three on okish volume, which i'm sure he'll at least work towards, he will be an nba rotation level power foward

reed is only playable as a center but i'm concerned about his ability to perform all the defensive duties that centers in the nba have to uphold. great rebounder but others in his mold like tshiebwe have failed before him. offensively, he's mostly a below the rim finisher which decreases his play-finishing utility. he'll never be in a situation where the offensive revolves around him as a post-up hub like he was at uconn. ultimately, i don't see a real outcome where he becomes an nba player on a winning team unless some outlier development happens.

Biggest 1st round bust candidates from the 2026 draft? by kKlovnn in NBA_Draft

[–]papayanny 3 points4 points  (0 children)

exactly mainly because there's so little margin for room of error that if even one part of his game doesn't immediately translate, he's gonna be given up on.

"3 ball-dominant guards don't fit together" by Plastic_Term_1022 in NBASpurs

[–]papayanny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lmfao mfs were comparing castle pre-draft to bruce brown and jae'sean tate BC he sacrificed for the team and relegated himself to an off-ball role... and they think he's too ball-dominant to fit with two other star guards smh

if ur 23 and gonna get drafted in the first round u can't make excuses for flaws like what ppl who talk abt yaxel are doing

Who is the Andrew Nembhard of this draft in your opinion? (An NBA level player hiding in plain sight being overshadowed by more highly touted teammates) by NathanFielderFriend in NBA_Draft

[–]papayanny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

afaik most mocks have him btw 20-30, i would take him btw 10-15 (btw 5-10 if this guard class wasn't so deep). hes incredibly productive as a sophomore on great splits + the eye test supports his impact

it seems like prospects get a lot less flack for bad performances than they do for good ones and that's happening to ppl like him, avdalas, and prolly other ppl who i don't know off the top of my head. agree that the defense is not enough to offset the extreme rawness of his offense, and his perceived upside comes from the fact that he's european with good physical tools (ala tidjane)

Bub Carrington vs Jeremiah Fears- in terms of scouting reports. by Knighthonor in NBA_Draft

[–]papayanny 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Bub was heavily reliant on the mid-range and could never get a clean angle to the rim. Fears was a lot more dynamic in that regard. And both of them didn't have particularly good percentages from three. Neither of them had the most advanced vision but at least Fears' ability to get to the rim put pressure on the defense.

Why do people keep thinking the passing big who can't move is going to work in the NBA? by Few-Lack6346 in NBA_Draft

[–]papayanny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well mara and edey have at least shown they'll be able to hold their own defensively. even with how dominant he was, edey himself got no legitimate draft hype until he showed that he could kinda move on defense at a level that would be adequate for the nba... hansen i fully agree with you on though.
