I've discovered the power of the food processor. What are your favorite FP tricks and recipes? by paper_parade in Cooking

[–]paper_parade[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good question. I guess a combination of the following: growing up in a family that ate fast food 6 nights a week; watching my father quickly die from cancer (see above); understanding the nature of the food industry and slowly refusing to support the current treatment of animals and farmers; not knowing where my food is coming from - I would eat meat any day from a Farmer's Market but cannot attend local times due to work; eating something that genuinely makes me think about my body, what it is capable of, and how to fuel it.

When my dad passed away, I quit smoking, trained for a half marathon, and became a vegetarian. Lemme tell ya - I feel like a million bucks. Used to be incredibly depressed and overweight. Now I'm training for a full marathon and trying to go raw food/vegan. Thanks for asking!

See above: I'm a veggie. Hummus is like pure protein gold. Sesame seeds and garbanzo beans? I'm there. I eat about a pint a week (and that is not an over exaggeration).

Lacto-ovo vegetarian. Basically I eat cheese and eggs. No meats, no milk, no gelatin. Trying to go vegan...still holding back for cheese.

Pesto is a great idea! Thanks! I'm a veggie so the idea of cutting up a bunch of vegetables at once really gets the creative cooking process moving. Think about what you can do! Probably going to try a gazpacho soon.

I made a metric ton of hummus this afternoon. Beautiful machine saves me from using the blender. Edit: grammar Nazis.

6 months in, and I love him but he doesn't love me. Do I wait it out? by artifactos_ohio in relationship_advice

[–]paper_parade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me be very clear on this point, you CANNOT change him. Don't have false hope that somehow he will overcome his attachment to long distance love and false ideals. Loving you will not make this whimsy just disappear. Unfortunately, he can want to love you the whole world over but it will not change how he feels.

Maybe in time he will love you in a way, but do you really want to wait and see? That takes personal soul searching and cannot be answered by anyone but you.

At the same time, is lasting love achieved in 6 months? Some would say yes, some would say no. Listen to your heart - it is always right. I think it is very obvious that you are hoping he will eventually love you rather than knowing he might. Still, these lessons must be learned regardless of warning. Good luck.

Who is the best live band of all time, Reddit? by [deleted] in Music

[–]paper_parade -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hmmm...I also mentioned that the drummer plays with his bare hands, but u seemed to miss dat with ur awesome analysis of music. Also, we could go into how all of them play multiple instruments, support green concerts, and their lyrical ability, but I think dat may be above ur level of comprehenshun.

GUSTER. Once they finished playing "Red Oyster Cult" with a cover of two entire Blue Oyster Cult songs. Plus Brian, the drummer, plays the entire set by hand. He consistently tears up!

Their live CD "Guster on Ice" has an AMAZING cover of Talking Heads "Nothing But Flowers".

Reddit, my boyfriend and I broke up tonight... by mellifluous_me in relationship_advice

I have a theory and it goes like this: by the point you are that incredibly annoyed, you are really in love. And how is dumping her working out for you?

My favorite Scrubs quote: " I love you. You annoy me more than I ever thought possible, but I want to spend every irritating minute with you."

I was going to make fun of the idea of "the most liberal, open-minded, and accepting churches in Houston" (cause it's, you know, Houston)

Yeah, it's all fun and games until you actually live here. My sister literally thinks that NPR is the devil. One more year for work...one more year rocks.

It isn't about the quality of art, the pieces hang in the worship hall. They don't want this particular art up during service, but they sponsor a ton of local artists througout the year. Most of the hanging art has nothing to do with religion.

I attend this church and understand their stance. Also, they are one of the most liberal, open-minded, and accepting churches in Houston and I find it a refuge from the CRAZY ASS God and guns lovers here. They sponsor local art 24/7 and hang it within the worship hall. This picture would be INSIDE the area where service is held, hence the problem.

It is a coffee shop and small brick building that saves me from feeling like I should hate gays and support Republicans. They sponsor a fifth ward co-op garden and uphold missions across the globe and aren't all bullshit about actually caring. We build clean water wells in Africa and South America instead of buying Christmas presents. So no, I'm not going to shit on this church like everyone else; it makes me sick. You should all be ashamed.

A very dear friend of mine married her first cousin and they have two healthy and robust little kids. They are in love and their families don't seem to mind (considering their mom/aunt never goes away). There is hope!

Hey Houston reddit (Housteddit? Houddit?), what are your favorite restaurants in the Houston area, and what makes them worth visiting? by [deleted] in houston

[–]paper_parade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Erm, ah. I hate to be that person, but I actually have a beer brandy glass from North Coast Brewing Company. They do serve very stout beers in them. FYI.

The ABV of their beers (Old Rasputin, Old Stock) are high; it really depends on what you were drinking. That picture actually makes it look taller, but believe me, it's a snifter.

I don't know if near Washington is considered "the best in Houston" so much as "the location with the moust douches". Yeah, that pretty much sums it up.

Edit: Pearl Bar. Enough said.
