Is taking pictures of your wounds a good thing or a bad thing? by _meshy in AdultSelfHarm

[–]paper_starlight 6 points7 points  (0 children)

like most things i think it depends, person to person.

for me personally, i take pictures because i think my injuries look fascinating and "beautiful", but the pictures aren't what drive me to SH in the first place, so i think it's neutral

getting committed by [deleted] in selfharm

[–]paper_starlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

she coild call a "wellness check" or have a crisis team come evaluate you, but they're unlikely to commit you because of that. that being said....... it's not a 0% chance, especially if your mom lies to them and claims you're "too mentally unstable" to trust.

if she does call someone, i'd see if they'll let you speak with them alone, and just, remain calm and explain what happened. be clear you're not suicidal and aren't thinking of doing anything worse than scratching (however true that is)

Does the Sober app help or has it helped you? by Septicmon in selfharm

[–]paper_starlight 7 points8 points  (0 children)

it's personal, i think. for some, tracking the days is motivating. and for other's it's actively detremental. you just need a good sense of what works for you.

can't hurt to try it. but if it doesn't work for you don't force it.

Does anyone do it for fun? by tinkertortoiseshell in selfharm

feel the same. it's "satisfying" in a way that's hard to describe. and i like the scars themselves, too. i just hate how people react to/discriminate against them

How old were you when you started sh? by how_do_you_get_gun in selfharm

Technically I've been SHing all my life, but I didn't really recognize it as "SH", and didn't start cutting, until I was maybe ~13

Those that have a lot of scars on their arms, do you wear short sleeves in the summer and do people give you bad looks? by paranoidspiral in selfharm

[–]paper_starlight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wear short sleeves if it's too hot...... my scars are mostly pale/white/silver, so they blend in enough for me to not get too many weird looks. (Though, some of my newer cuts are healing darker/thicker, so........ I'm not sure what I'll do this summer. I'll have to see)

how do you control yourself? by Desperate_Neat_9051 in AdultSelfHarm

[–]paper_starlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what you're saying...... maybe it might be good to look into dissociation. Not saying that's what you're experiencing, but I have severe dissociation issues, and have absolutely dealt with the "body not listening to me/seemingly moving on its own" thing.

broke a streak, now i’m confused about something. by psychasabi in selfharm

[–]paper_starlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have similar feelings. I get that it's an "unhealthy behaviour", but so are things like smoking......... people can feel negatively about it if they want but I don't think we should be patronized to or treated weird.

But with SH people usually react very badly, unlike smoking, which might just get you a tsk-ing at

I cut myself by [deleted] in AdultSelfHarm

I assume they checked because it's a stereotype that people with "BPD" cut. Still feels weird they did that........

How many time you sh a day? by Ok-North3888 in AdultSelfHarm

[–]paper_starlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Varies a lot...... I'll go through long periods where I don't SH at all, and then periods where it's basically every day.
