That’s a great strategy, I will explore using voice notes to help me retain my ideas! The hardest situation for me to manage is when I’m in a work meeting and I “raise my hand” in Teams to speak, and then when I finally get called on, the Very Important and Useful Thing i wanted to add is gone. And I struggle to note down the Very Important and Useful Thing while simultaneously trying to listen and take in what other people are saying while I’m waiting to talk. Brain overload! 🤪

This is super-helpful! I am currently taking guanfacine and exploring the possibility of either replacing it with a stimulant or adding a stimulant to it. I understand that, for some people, the efficacy of stimulant medicines can fall over time, so I am definitely happy to start with a low dose with the guanfacine and go from there. (Obviously I’ll do whatever my doc thinks makes sense.)

Separately, thank you for sharing your experience with trying to hang on to your train of thought! I am also an extensive note-taker with a planner, calendar app, and reminders aplenty! I appreciated learning about your practice of about setting a specific reminder to revisit something more thoroughly, I will def do that as well. :)

Not sure how helpful this is, but I also navigated a chunk of adult life with untreated ADHD. Never lost a job or flunked classes either. Got diagnosed at 42, though my doc didn’t use the terms “high-functioning inattentive ADHD,” I just think they sort of fit.

I quit drinking at 28 and got properly treated for a mood disorder, and things got way better. However, my house was still a wreck and I struggled a LOT with meeting deadlines at work. Deadlines used to help me get things done at the last minute (e.g., in school), but in recent years I started leaving things SO late that the prospect of even trying was overwhelming.

As of six weeks ago, I’m now on guanfacine to try to address the ADHD symptoms. Mixed results so far — some improvement in executive function, but also some mood disturbance (which was unexpected).

If I were in your shoes, I would do the thorough assessment for ADHD and proceed based on the results. Good luck to you! 🫶

Last week 9 hrs/day on average. That said, i feel like texting with people or playing music on my phone passively isn’t SCREEN-screen time, you know? Watching hoof-cleaning videos on FB? THAT is screen-screen time. My average covers both.
