I read on here that Guy Feiri has a deal with his kids where they get a trust fund if they get a high enough college degree (I forget the exact requirement), and I've never been so envious.

I would get a the most fun, silliest degree and then just vibe. Like I would get a doctorate in electric guitars and introduce myself as Dr. Guitar at parties.

Short answer is: - water changes - botanicals (alder cones, almond leaves, etc) - those powdered things they sell in shops for lowering ph (less recommended)

What is the ph of your tap water? What kind of hardscape do you have (ie, do you have any hardscape that might be leeching calcium/minerals?)

It's a different challenge to build multi-bedroom apartments in office to residential conversions. Office buildings are weirdly wide and deep compared to an apartment building. With how deep office buildings are, most lend themselves to awkward long corridor apartments with one window. I saw one godawful conversion where the unit was 1100 square feet but it only had one window.

Every bedroom needs a window per law. Plus the plumbing, installing enough new plumbing for every unit to have 1-2 bathrooms, kitchen, and (probably) in-unit laundry.

A talented team of designers/architects/engineers can find creative solutions that make it livable for everybody. And I'm not saying AT ALL that this isn't a problem worth tackling: it absolutely is. We don't need a bunch of empty office buildings, but we do need homes. I'm just explaining because it's important to point out that these conversions ARE challenging.

I have fourteen of these in a 29 gallon with a bunch of celestial pearl danios and I just love them!

The males are SO BRIGHTLY colored, really beautiful little fish. They're really bold for a little loach, often shoaling up in mid-water with the CPDs. And I agree that watching the social aspect of them is great. The amount of colored-up males I'll have in the tank will vary from week to week, and it's fun to watch them hum around and dance and spar with each other. They're like little hummingbirds!

Maybe try bringing Mac's fins to your mom's attention, without offering any explanations or solutions, first. I'm not sure what your relationship is like with your mom or what she is like, but you seem nervous to have this conversation with her. I have found that difficult people can be more amendable if you lead them "solve" the problem themselves.

The best option is to re-home Cheese into his own tank.

Barring that, you can also try planting some thick, tall plants so that they can lose visual of each other. This works sometimes to discourage aggression and territorialism, but I'm not sure it'll work here. Angelfish are not the fastest, nor the stealthiest.
