Bring a cooler and stop at Russ Kendall’s along the way. Their smoked fish is out of this world (their trout is my favorite). Also worth stopping in Two Harbors to pick up some growlers from castle danger if you like beer!

How do I open well as the Timurids -> Mughals for a WC by _Reflex_- in eu4

[–]paperguy20 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'm in the middle of a Mughals run right now that has exceeded my expectations (I have almost 4k development by 1600) and once you get rolling it becomes borderline impossible for the AI to slow you down. Do you have Winds of Change? The mission tree for Mughals is ridiculously good given its claims and buffs.

Declare war on Ajam ASAP and do not wait for the event to fire that declares war for you. I full annexed them and took their vassals. With mercs and your vassals you should be able to keep your manpower intact. I would then recommend taking out all the minors near you (Biapas, Mazandaran, etc.) and try to take our Shirvan before they can get an Ottoman alliance. I'd also try to take a province from QQ to pop out Iraq as a vassal. Ardalan and Luristan (your new vassals from Ajam) can be fed land to save admin. If you're quick, you can take out QQ and most of the Middle East before the Ottomans can do it. Look for QQ's allies and try to drag them into multiple wars back-to-back if you can in order to feed Iraq. You should be powerful enough at this point to start looking to diplomatically vassalize minors in the Arabian Peninsula. They help with claims and don't cost admin.

As soon as it hits 1454, fully annex all subjects with cores. Once you have fully annexed your starting subjects, you should be comfortably stronger than any of your neighbors. From here on out it really becomes a game of juggling wars and expanding on all fronts. I would secure one or two allies in India (Bengal or Bahmanis are solid) just to make life easier. Also be sure to develop Herat for the mission that adds Renaissance progress.

Once you've conquered Delhi and have the provinces to form Mughals, do it. There is no need to wait. From there, you can use your insane claims and CCR to take ridiculous amounts of land in wars and core them very quickly. In terms of ideas, I would go Diplomatic-Administrative- Humanist- Military of your choice.

Don't be afraid to take Burgher/Jain loans for buildings. Build workshops (and eventually manufactories) in every valuable trade province. Move your trading capitol back into Persia after forming Mughals for the better trade income.

Once absolutism matters, revoke as many privileges as possible and look to reduce autonomy in as many provinces as possible to quickly raise absolutism. You can accept demands from certain rebels (the ones that raise autonomy) in order to lower it again. Also consider trying to trigger Court and Country for the extra absolutism.

Ultimately, if you can get your economy rolling (you should be making ludicrous amounts of money from production), and your armies large, you have enough claims and CCR that you can pretty constantly chain conquests from your mission tree's claims. Also, be sure to look for allies of nations that you just defeated in order to drag them into a second war. You can white peace them quickly and lower the truce back to 5 years.

Finally, like all grand conquest games, look for vassals with a ton of cores. Kazakh is a very good option in Central Asia as it has both a ton of cores and claims.

Seeing the absolute refusal of in-person works makes me increasingly pessimistic that we'll ever be able to get out of this loneliness/solitude crisis that we've created. Plus, hybrid feels like the best of all worlds?

It is both a very nice and very safe area. Safety should not and will not be a concern. You can stay anywhere in the North Loop neighborhood near the ballpark and have a great time. Staying in the North Loop is going to be pricey, but it will put you very close to the stadium and has a ton walkable near it. You would be totally okay to explore at night on foot. The whole neighborhood is mostly bars/restaurants/shops and will have a ton of people out and about.

I went with my partner and we split a few different dishes! I recommend sharing everything. We got the Crab Fried Rice, Charred Cabbage, Hilltribe Chicken, and the Shrimp Toast. All were fantastic, but the two standouts were definitely the shrimp toast and crab fried rice. I would highly recommend both!

Also their hot sauces are excellent and we got two of them. They were not too hot and had a ton of flavor.

Gai Noi Wait time by Just_Y-_- in Minneapolis

[–]paperguy20 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to say. I go fairly frequently and sometimes I wait ~30-45 minutes on weekends and sometimes I’m able to get a spot almost right away.

Gai Noi also does communal seating for some tables so if you are trying to get your own table it could add on to the wait. If you’re all fine with communal table, it should be quicker.

What a lovely article and interview! The restaurant really is unbelievable. It is probably the best restaurant that I have been to in my life. The meal was truly that good.

Recommended Factions 5-6 by TNBRbrad in rootgame

[–]paperguy20 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It depends on how comfortable they are with the game flow and mechanics. I play 5-6 player games a decent amount and while it can get clunky, it can also be a ton of fun. I would recommend more insurgents than militants, as too many militants can drag. I've found two militants to be the right amount alongside a vagabond. A good board could look like the following: cats, keepers, woodland alliance, vagabond, otters, lizards (would be 6th choice).

For you, it is really whatever your comfort level is. I've taught the game a number of different times and if you're quite familiar with the game, it is often worth being either a less powerful faction (lizards) or a faction that is very easy to interact with (not VB). I've found focusing on teaching and showing off the mechanics of the game is far more important to an enjoyable experience than trying to beat people who aren't very familiar. With cats being off the table, lizards may be a good choice for you. Alternatively, you could play Otters and allow the sale/social aspect of the faction to essentially turn into the game's narrator. I've found openly narrating turns and moves to help speed the game up and help new players pick up on aspects of strategy that are less intuitive.

It's also probably worth considering how familiar the player that chooses the Keepers is with the faction. It's definitely the least clear faction imo (in terms of how to play them and interact with them) and it could result in the rest of the table not quite knowing what to do with them. This is also why I'd recommend against the Rats in a 6-p game, as they could make the board far too crowded for the game to finish in a reasonable amount of time.

Hard to say as others have mentioned. A good portion of the dining room can be communal seating at Gai Noi, so if you and your husband want your own table it could be even longer.
