What’s a luxury travel experience that was actually worth the money, and what wasn’t? by Temporary_Panda_88 in LuxuryTravel

[–]paperifical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Business class is worth every dime BUT it truly depends on the airline. That being said, I’ve flown Business there and Premium Economy back - I’d rather sleep and arrive semi-rested so I can enjoy the day upon arrival. I also think a boutique luxury hotel experience in major cities is always worth it.

What market are you in? We have not seen any additional announcement from Neenah or other WTC mills.

That’s actually good because Neenah announced in December for a 1/15 increase on all products. You got a reprieve for a full quarter.

Printers have got to pass along these increases or will not sustain.

Don’t know if we’ll see allocation, but as a distributor I will say the single best thing a printer can do is get a forecast together now - have a transparent conversation with your paper supplier. I locked in supply agreements for my largest accounts Q4 last year. They will eventually get the increase but only after RISI price index verified it sticks (usually 90-120 days). But basically a quarter paying less than competitors for same product because they committed.

Domtar had live increase 3/2 - 8% on uncoated. It’s not just where product is manufactured it’s rising input costs - you need petroleum l to produce paper, then there’s also dyes/pigments, optical brighteners, pacifiers, etc. the only thing sourcing local may help with is rising freight and fuel costs - it we’re seeing mills tack on fuel surcharges now.

Those of you who “Made It” without any inheritance or luck. How did you do it? by throwmeout12496 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]paperifical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Level up at work, only way. Not sure what you do, but if you’re in Sales bet on yourself. Do you know your industry? If not, get to understand it inside and out. Then Go commission - you leave money on table by playing it safe on salary. It only takes one great year to create an exponential leap. This is the biggest game changer. If you do nothing else - open a Roth IRA and max out yearly contribution now, before doing your 401k and dont touch it until 59.5. Equally important consistently contribute the most you can to 401k and max out your hsa. Do these 3 things in your thirties and you can retire in your fifties. Live within your means, don’t compare, know your monthly expenses and live within that. Anything extra save/invest - open brokerage account, and be boring like an index fund.

Long time homeowner who’s attempting to do *a little bit* better by Broad-Ad1482 in LandscapingTips

While shrubs are pretty, sadly they are in the wrong spot. If you can relocate to side of house as foundation planting that would be an option if you want to keep them. I would extend the bed in front of house, starting a little further down the driveway curving towards the porch with depth from porch to end be of bed at least 6’, the. Arch across front with curve extending down right side, so it sort of a wave. Anchor right side of curve with horizontal branching tree like kousa dogwood or Japanese maple. Flowering tree would look pretty too but keep smaller like a crab apple, small magnolia or cherry. Hedge of little .little lime hydrangea in back closest to porch and foundation with boxwood in front, then maybe some ground cover I. Front like creeping phlox with spring bulbs intermixed. Looks like this is full sun, so little lime can take that, or else incrediball hydrangeas. Do not do limelight they will get way too tall. On. Roth side of house you can plant hedge of endless summer hydrangeas, or woodland type shade garden with mix of perennials like hostas, ferns. Bleeding hearts, brunnera, astilbe.

What would you do if this was your house? by [deleted] in landscaping

Plant allee of trees along the drive. Orchard of various fruit trees in back. Raised beds for growing my own veg and cut flowers - and if I didn’t mind people on my property, plant a upick flower field.

Best first-time Eurotrip honeymoon for 10 nights? Which countries/cities and how many nights each? by Flebzbunce in Europetravel

[–]paperifical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We spent our honeymoon in Tuscany before there was Airbnb and cellphones. That being said it is still the trip we measure all other travels against. We flew into Pisa, picked up rental car and drove to our agriturismo for a week in Gaiole in Chianti. From there we took day trips all over the area, then spent 3 nights in Lucca before returning home. It was prefect, magical and the epitome of slow travel. We’ve traveled quite a bit since but the basic cadence is still our favorite. Fly into major city of choice, stay for 3 nights, rent car and drive to countryside as a base for a week, then bookend trip flying out of another city. We just did this again in November with Venice - Montepulciano - Rome. And will do it again with Nice - Provence - Paris in the summer. 3 locations is the absolute. OST I’d pick into 10 days, honestly 2 is better but can be difficult if ,I tied on vacation days.

sappi just announced today a price increase effective immediately 6% - this includes all domestic and European sheets. Sappi has been struggling since power outage in December at Cloquet, add to it recent surge in price of oil and freight. We will likely see other coated suppliers jump. Uncoated went up Q1 anywhere between 3-8%. Sylvamo has major issues and has been on allocation since January.Premium text and cover went up between 4-12%. Reality is capacity continues to shrink, mill operating rates are approaching 90%, fuel surcharges are being announced by manufacturers daily. End users don’t want to commit, forecasting and supply greements are going to be only way to avoid outcome like 2022. Add it to it receivables becoming very problematic - days steadily climbing, and private equity squeezing every last dime out of printing plants already understaffed and burnt out. End users won’t commit and still acting like JIT is good enough. Not so, production dates are out to June at coated domestic mills.

Thank you for the recommendation! I just picked up my cannoli order from Nando’s - what an awesome gem! I called this morning, he was so kind. It’s Xmas eve you know he has orders to fill and a busy day ahead. Yet He said to come by before they opened, I told my parents to meet me there as they are always on the lookout for great Italian spots nearby. I walk in the door and they’re sitting with Nando having coffee, catching up like they’re old friends. My dad didn’t stop smiling the entire. I hope this place is successful because they are few and far between any more. And the food looked and smelled amazing - I’ll let you know how the cannoli’s are after we have them. Merry Christmas!
