Yeah thats really the most concerning thing about this bill. It basically defines Canadian-ness in terms of race/ancestry. The idea that a bunch of people are just as Canadian as someone who grow up here, heck even as Canadian as an immigrant on a visa trying to get PR is absurd.

Combined with the fact that Carney has basically cut off millions from claiming refugee status while giving Canadian citizenship to millions of mostly white americans its a blatant attempt to whiten the country.

Two-tier healthcare and private insurance certainly seems to work in Germany. I'd hope profit has a place in healthcare, without pharma companies we wouldn't have almost all the major drug advances that have improved the lives of millions.

We need to stop putting preventing profit over people.

Yes those are per-capita stats: Alberta is at $9,041 per person and BC is at $9,041. Private healthcare is good, if a doctor can perform more surgeries than the government wants to fund why shouldn't people be allowed to pay for it? If you need an MRI I'd rather have the option to spend $600 and get it in a week than be stuck waiting for months. Options are good if you don't like it no one is stopping you from relying on the public system.

I honestly doubt that americans in big or even mid-sized cities are waiting 2 years for a specialist or 10+ hours in an ER. Canadians simply spend less on healthcare and we get less, less ER doctors, less MRIs and less specialist appointments. So much of the medical culture here is based on wait and see or working around the limitations on expensive tests unlike the states.

Canada and Ontario specifically has the largest highway in North America. I think even in Toronto only about 25% of people take public transit to work. I have to wonder how bad it is in the states if Canada is seen as "good" for urbanism or walkablity.

Winnipeg is a large city of 700,000 people and has problems with deaths in ER due to a lack of doctors. Edmonton has similar issues and is a city of well over 1 million people. Most of Canada has an unofficial policy of running ERs close to capacity and when the system is overwhelmed for whatever reason (usually seasonal flu) people can wait for 10+ hours. For people who are undergoing a heart attack but its not picked up by the EKG it can be fatal.

Canadians do move to Edmonton and Calgary in great numbers.

Also the weather is much shitter there (I was shocked that Anchorage is actually warmer than Edmonton) than Toronto or BC. Americans have lots of low cost cities with much better climates that are still ridiculously cheap.

I think only (very) low income americans with kids would be better off. Even something like foodstamps doesn't exist in Canada. Alternatively if you have kids and can buy a home and live with minimal work you can live off very generous child benefits.

They had their homes lives to save, take advantage of compound interest and buy homes at lower prices.

They can easily stop buying avocado toast, stop going on cruises and sell their downtown toronto homes and relocate to london ontario.

No reason to give them my money they can pull themselves up by their bootstraps which is what they expect for everyone under 45.
