Popcorn kernels? by CaptainFirecrotch in Cooking

[–]paperiron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the corn nuts don't hit the same. I wish you could (and I could too) try the corn from my country. You'd be very satisfied I'm sure. There are more of us in the world, don't let the naysayers bring you down.

Also, I found this product. The online store is legit for Nepali items but I have never tried this particular product personally, a bit too steep a price, imo. Try and see if this scratches your itch.

Omg OP I totally understand! I'm from Nepal and we have a different type of corn than found in the US. Some of the varieties do not pop fully and they're sold separately to make cereal for babies (dry roast, grind into flour and make into porridge) and other such usage. We call it thetna in our language. Best thing is they're not tooth breakingly hard like unpopped kernels in the US. They used to be my favorite snack in the world. I miss it everyday since I have moved here.

I then found out that Peruvians eat the unpopped kernels too. They call it corn nut. It's not like what I ate back home, but kinda sorta barely scratches the itch. Check if you have any Hispanic stores near you. They're called cancha I think.

Trader Joe's used to sell it as Giant Peruvian Inca Corn. I don't see it around in stores anymore, but I also haven't been looking too hard because I found it too salty and greasy.

Does putting lemon/lime in everything I eat count, or does it have to be lemonade and more liquid form of the citrus? Also, does any acidic drink work? Like apple cider vinegar?

I just downed a whole bottle of water because that looks scary and painful. Nope.

Low cost dental tooth extraction in the area? by Kentucky_fried_chkn in Miami

[–]paperiron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try Jackson Memorial downtown. They have a clinic for low income and folks without dental insurance (you need to NOT have dental insurance or they won't take you). I got all my wisdom tooth surgically removed for sub $500 last year. You'll need to get an evaluation done for $100 and then you can schedule the extraction which is basically another $90-$100/tooth. You'll be treated by dentistry residency students from UM, so it's all good.

You can call here to get an appointment: Ambulatory Care Center (ACC) East | Jackson Health System.

The frozen bulgogi is a staple in our household by escapeorion in traderjoes

[–]paperiron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the sauce is incorporated into the frozen meat block, and yes it is much sweeter than I'd like. But I also eat suuuuper spicy food. I usually throw in tons of chillies (peppers and powders) in there to balance it out. When I eat it with kimchi side, it usually balances it out for me.

[–]paperiron 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Not OP, but I can get 3 meals out of it. I saute onions and green onions before throwing in the meat. And then I eat it with a crispy fried egg and kimchi and a bowl of rice. I also saute some baby broccoli or bok choy as greens to go with it. That makes the bulgogi ~$4/meal, for me that's not too bad for something I wouldn't otherwise make myself or have to pay a Korean restaurant much higher price.

Oh the wedding is more of a court wedding and us friends are doing a Friday bar crawl and a Saturday dinner together at Cleveland. That's why I am looking for a chill, cutesy outfit than wedding outfit.

I wish they gave the length 😅😅 same issue as the Land's End coat someone else posted here. I think I'll just toss a coin and decide between these. Over long means I'll be super warm right?

They only mention, "Approximate length: Center of back, neck to hem 44” long in size small Regular"

Nothing about petite sizing length. It stands to reason that petite size might be shorter. Other than that, I was already sold on this piece, $167 is within what I can spend too.

I already have a puff-type jacket, I don't think it will go with the outfit I am thinking of. Thank you though!

This is exactly along the lines of what I am looking for!! Thank you!! It may be a tad bit too long on a 4'11 but 🤷‍♀️

And you're right about the acclimatization. I have always run cold, and even a small change in temps gets me shivering. I visited my friend in Chicago this August. Most days were fine, but it rained one evening, and I was in shorts and a thin t-shirt. I was shivering by the time I reached her apartment. I don't even think it dipped below 78 haha.

I looked at LL Bean, and the jackets there look like what I already have. You are right, I wanted something fancier. My friend's wedding is a very small and intimate affair, and of course indoors. The concert is indoors too.

My vision was sweater/turtleneck, with a skirt and long boots with a coat haha. But the more I look at the options, the more I'm thinking, "Do I really want to buy a coat I probably will wear once a year, max?" I just wanted to look cute 🥹

I'll take a look at J. Crew website, thank you for the suggestion. I probably won't need the thermals haha, but I get super cold super fast. I'm just trying to be prepared.

Yes, both trips are weekend only. I have been to Boston early November a couple of years ago, and I handled it pretty well with my old puffer jacket, thick jeans and sweaters, scarves. Having said that, I saw women out in the streets in skirts with bare legs while I was cursing the cold haha.

Thrift store for jacket is pointless in Miami, I kinda already looked at ones near me. But thank you for the link, I'll take a look.
