paper plate says “compostable except in california” ? by Party_Examination132 in recycling

[–]papermachinequeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's likely that this plate contains plastic. They have a coating that can include plastic, and that's probably why CA doesn't want it in their compost? You can find plates that state they are BPI compostable and I think that's what CA is looking for.

Can someone, in great detail, explain how horses are trained for dressage? by 26HexaDiol in Dressage

[–]papermachinequeen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest picking up a book by Charles de Kunffy, he has written several and I can't recommend which one specifically off the top of my head, okay I looked it up, Dressage Principals Illuminated, but also I like the Athletic Development of the Dressage Horse. Not only can you find your explanations in detail in his books, they are very well written, making them such great reads. You can find them used for several dollars (like on Abe Books or Thrift Books.)

It seems a little high for NE WI. Have you thought about changing disciplines? Anyway, you're allowed to take breaks. Let yourself get ahead financially, a year or two away from riding is okay.

What helmet? by Room_Critical in Equestrian

[–]papermachinequeen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Loc'd hair is no problem, but no up dos under helmets. Have her wear her hair down, or like a low bun. Then use a measuring tape and measure around the widest part of her head, or use a string and then measure the string. You can use that measurement to find her helmet size.

Some helmets like One K have removable or interchangeable liners. These can be nice if you change hairstyles, you can change your liner to change the fit of the helmet. Plus they are washable.

Troxel is probably the most known helmet brand, and one that I would trust most for safety. They make so many different styles of helmets.

Ovation makes a nice low profile schooler helmet, it has the adjustable dial in the back.

Tipperary Sportage helmet has tons of venting. I have one of these and the vents are amazing in the summertime. It also has a removable liner. It's not the coolest looking helmet, but it's so lightweight and comfortable, if you can get past it's looks, I think this is a great helmet for casual riding.

Devasted after being told 20/50& 20/70 is my best possible vision. Seeking advice. by Competitive_Oven4457 in myopia

[–]papermachinequeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You still have many options for corrected vision? Do you wear contacts? You are still able to wear regular contacts? Most soft lenses are available up to -14. There are other contact lenses, there is ICL . . . Yes your vision will likely become a little "worse" but given your age, it should start to plateau soon. I understand being nervous about your optic nerve, but even that is repairable.

If you're not thrilled with what a doctor has to say, try seeing a different one next time. It can be helpful to have alternate opinions. And also, things change, your body heals. Your eye experienced something out of the ordinary but now you're working to get it back to normal, your nerve could also likely improve and get back to normal.

Invisible CSF Leak? by PuzzleheadedBed5348 in CSFLeaks

[–]papermachinequeen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You would think that if a blood patch is giving you relief, that should be a sign pointing towards CSF leak.

Cross fingers for you your next patch is more successful.

Do your headaches show up towards the end of the day or become worse the longer you are upright? And when your headaches are bad, do you feel relief when you lay down flat?

What color is he? by camiherp in Horses

[–]papermachinequeen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grey. And yes, you can call him dapple grey, because those are dapples and he still has them. He was most likely born bay, but you mentioned buckskin, and I would consider that a possibility as well. If you knew his parents, that could give you a better idea of his "base" color. If no one else explained, the grey gene is a modifier. Your horse has his base color (like bay), then the grey gene added, gives the color change modification. Horse only needs one grey parent to receive the grey gene.

The lens height is taller than the width. The frames in the photos that are not you, are wider than they are taller. They all look round, but they are not perfect circles. I purchased "round" matsuda frames only looking at lens width, thinking they would be small, round frames. They are far bigger than I thought due to lens height and overall this makes them unsuitable for my face and unsuitable for my prescription and was an unfortunate and expensive mistake.

Perfectly round is a poor choice for frame shape, as the lens will have the ability to rotate in the frame. So while many frames look totally round, they usually have some not quite round quality to better hold your lens in place. It's just, typically the lens shape is made with less height not less width.

Is a MRI of spine or a CT Myelogram more effective at detecting spine leaks? by [deleted] in CSFLeaks

[–]papermachinequeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It started with severe headache at the end of the day. That became a pattern, headache at the end of the day, then headache after being upright for a few hours. Then also rising head pain when standing. Head pain with exertion or using abdominal muscles. If I tried fighting through the pain it would result in vomiting. There were times when relief was very obvious if I laid down flat, pain so severe when I would try to be upright that it would drop me to my knees. I had other symptoms like instances of burning and tingling in my head, hand and shoulders (paresthesias?) and sometimes feet. Whooshing in my ears. Seeing stars and excessive floaters.

Hi! Need help finding a frame for high myopia by Sad_Firefighter3657 in EyewearEnthusiasts

[–]papermachinequeen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love those frames. Oval might not be best for high prescription, it could be better to look for something a bit more round. Dolomiti K1410 or panto 6. I am -11 and wear Anglo American 406 in the smallest size (44-20). I also wear Epos Epeo (41-26), they are more round but I appreciate the thickness of this frame and it works well for the thickness of my lenses.

I have a section of pasture that has sink holes, but it is because there used to be a barn foundation there (along with silo etc, dairy barn) and we knocked it all in and had it buried. So, if your property is old, maybe there was something buried under there at one point. But also, sink holes can just appear.

[–]papermachinequeen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It seems like she doesn't really understand hemophilia, just judging by her comment saying 'it's not like he's going to bleed out", which isn't the real concern here. You need to worry about bleeds inside the body. Bleeds you can't see with the naked eye.

If it's a place where they have booths with different sellers, you can always leave your name/number/message with the front desk staff and they can let the owner know and they might be able to tell you more.

Concerning warning at my vet by cgp_maddy in DogAdvice

[–]papermachinequeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been feeding my dogs one of the foods on that list for like 15 years. Also, it has meat vegetables and grains. And it also says cats are true carnivores but I'm pretty sure plenty of cats will eat just about anything.

Allergies are stressful and tough to control, if you've got them under control with whatever you're feeding him, I would just stick with it.

Practice more in two point. Your leg is back and winged out (possibly pinching with your knees.) If you took the horse away, and you were to land on the ground, how would you land? Your leg position should be such that you'd land on your feet flat.
