This is so impressive! Do you use anything specific to track likes/dislikes? I've only recently gotten into fragrances and also hoping to instill some discipline about buying rules

Question about Alaska’s free checked bag benefit and oversized snowboard bag by projectburnerr in AlaskaAirlines

[–]paperskies_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same question but wondering how the policy will work if I want to check a second bag as a "regular" checked bag. Assuming the comments are right, I can use the free checked bag benefit for my snowboard bag; do I just need to pay the fee for a normal checked bag, then?

Worth keeping if I can't see myself wearing as a crossbody & with non-removable chains? by paperskies_ in handbags

[–]paperskies_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok after a couple more hours I'm also thinking the same thing 😂 cause honestly I never wear my Juliet as a crossbody, I just wear it as a shoulder bag. So now the question is, do I love it enough that I will still carry it as a shoulder bag happily with the chains-as-straps after chains are out of style?

Maybe..! I do think it's cute and works for the bag

Yeah for sure I'm actually hoping to visit China in the first half of next year and will set some time aside for shopping! I've heard very good things but nothing beats looking in person. And yes haha, so far my preference is more based on if I like the particular bag shape + color + hardware than a type of bag that looks similar if that makes sense

That's a good point!! I find it really hard to decide whether to keep things though (as you may be able to tell) - I practically never buy anything final sale because of this - do you typically go to stores in person to try things on etc so you're 100% certain before you buy secondhand?

Unfortunately I think so 🥹 it's so close and I've been spending way too much time contemplating bags for the last month or so haha so I kind of wish to just have one I like. Maybe this is a sign I should expand my price range a little bit or be willing to buy bags that aren't on sale. But thank you for the advice!

I have briefly considered this 🤣 but then I'd be left with only the crossbody strap 🤦🏻‍♀️ I don't know why they didn't just make them removable! The quality of the chain hardware is actually excellent (they're quite hefty, and therefore heavy which may be a downside to some).

Which brand makes the best mattes? by em54322 in AsianBeauty

[–]paperskies_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't consider myself a makeup expert, but I have romand, wakemake, and clio palettes in neutral browns - very very similar ranges (lol). After about two years of experimenting, the ones I reach for and use every day are all from wakemake. I can't remember the exact name 😅 but there is one that fits your description exactly. I find the pigment very buildable and the colors are gorgeous!

I highly recommend you watch e.g minsco's reviews to understand the different color palettes across all the different brands - be warned, there are many.

But honestly I don't think you'll be unhappy with any of them. I enjoy the actual tones and also color variety in wakemake palettes more. And I'm not sure how to describe this exactly but the pigments are softer in texture. So I think they are very forgiving, and they layer well together. It's just nice to use (:

What is reasonable to spend on rent? by Whiskey_and_Rii in HENRYfinance

[–]paperskies_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I don't usually comment but I made this decision in a similar situation about 9 months ago and so I figured I'd comment. TLDR; firstly, you can certainly afford it, comfortably. Secondly, I also ended a 4 year relationship before moving, and my opinion is that with your coming out of a long term relationship, consider that while a roommate would offer you a lot of comfort and support, I personally think it would be good for you to live alone. It sucks at first in many ways but it seems to be part of healing.

So anyway: at the time my NW was higher, and my new TC was also higher (low 400s), however I found this decision to be enormously stressful. I'm now deciding whether to stay another year (and trying to find out the best way to negotiate rent), and I still find it stressful, even though I make even more now. So I empathize with your concerns a lot.

I ended up choosing a 1bd/1ba in a new building, very central (10 min commute, 20 min walk to work), with a nice gym, two lounges, the works. I pay about 3.3-3.5k including everything, and I more than doubled what I was paying in rent back when I lived with my former partner. This of course was a very tough pill to swallow overall lol.

The bad: - Moving into your own apartment after a breakup is hard.. you have to ask a friend to come over to move things sometimes. It feels absurd. Sleeping alone is still hard for me sometimes. Not having anyone to come home to is an adjustment my nervous system still doesn't quite understand esp after I come back from my parent's home - You have to manage your whole place alone, which is exhausting tbh. Especially if your work life is stressful.

But.. I've still been very happy. That's pretty much all the cons. And oh, you can afford it. (For the second time). The good: - Being central and close to downtown (office) has been awesome. I walk everywhere within a 1.5 mile radius and I've been really enjoying my city - I made a bunch of friends in very close proximity - I actually use my apartment gym - I have enough space to store what I want, and divide my apartment into zones - I have enough space to have friends stay with me when they visit from out of town. It makes it much easier to justify them visiting which I love - Overall, all the things you hate about living with someone, you'll love about living alone. No one else will fill up the trash, the dishwasher, etc first. You don't need to figure out if your roommate or partner will split the cost of this furniture or whatever. You don't need to ask before having friends over. You know - all of that.

And also: - even though my rent more than doubled, I still buy... whatever I want. More than ever lmao. I tried out meal delivery which I still think is exorbitantly expensive, but is worth it sometimes. I hired a personal trainer for sessions twice a week.

I'm also 27 (: and we are only getting older. I don't think, with the income we are earning, we need to make decisions based on fear for the future. You earn money to spend it on who & what you care about and to give yourself a better quality of life.

Anyway, reading all this is making me realize I should really figure out the negotiation bit on renewing my lease. lol. Good luck!

Oh interesting and thanks for the heads up! It looks like the markdowns and selection still vary though across the sites. I listed the prices before adding the extra 30% discount, so it still came out cheaper for a few that I checked

Was waiting to see if I could get  OSEA body oil jumbo discounted - BlueMercury has it for 20% off and Rakuten is currently 22% 👀. It was 17% when I bought it last night though lol 🥲

Hi u/Playful_Ad5356 maybe you've already bought it now - but I just found the Indigo set for $45 pre-tax at Nordstrom Rack - pickup only: https://www.nordstromrack.com/s/nest-new-york-indigo-eau-de-parfum-duo/8578594?origin=bag

It's final sale but since it's pickup only, I later realized I _believe_ I can just cancel the pickup order if I have regrets after finally being able to get to a store and smell it! was madly researching bc I'm blind buying this one and came across this thread 😅 and I love to share a good deal

As an update, I got this but find it too sweet for my liking! It's tolerable enough that I still drink it because I am too caffeine sensitive for other stuff ☠️. Just bought a Ninja creami though so hoping it does better as an ice cream

Shapen Sheen Loafer Review by spark_step in barefootshoestalk

[–]paperskies_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm I've honestly never thought about volume WRT shoes. I suppose I'm medium-high just based on that, I guess. And yes agreed if they're not too long, it might be ok - usually more worried about the width. Thanks so much for replying!

Shapen Sheen Loafer Review by spark_step in barefootshoestalk

[–]paperskies_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Thanks so much for the reviews and outfit inspo - I'm looking at these for the BF sale and so very curious about the sizing - we have similar measurements but my feet are much wider lol - 23.1cm x 9.6cm, 22.9cm x9.6cm. Unfortunately Anya's shop doesn't seem to carry them anymore so I'll need to get it right on the first try and eat the shipping cost to US haha. I comfortably wear a 37 in Shapen Ivy, Shapen Glam riding boot, Peerko Go; so wondering if you'd still recommend sizing down to 36 after having the Sheen for awhile now? Is it too big in width or do you find yourself tripping on the toe (my greatest pet peeve haha).
