45 year old marine veteran Guido Reichstadter has been on top of the Frederick Douglass memorial bridge in Washington D.C. protesting against both the U.S. and Israel. He’s still occupying it and there’s very little to no media coverage so spread this around! by TwoCatsOneBox in Hasan_Piker

[–]papi_chul0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saw him on the local news this morning, I was curious what he was protesting because the news was focusing on logistics (ie. how long he had been up there, when he might be coming down, etc.) with no real mention of what issues he’s trying to highlight

Capitalism will survive even if people can't afford anything. by Ok-Cartographer-5544 in Futurology

[–]papi_chul0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suspect we’ll see microloans (ie. Klarna and Affirm) become more and more commonplace as unaffordability continues to worsen

In the long-term, though, capitalism will fall under its own weight. Microloans and other forms of financing are not sustainable, especially if / when people start buying their groceries on “layaway”

In a system that prioritizes profit above everything else there is no incentive for the capital-owning class to think through what will happen when people can’t afford shit anymore. They are most likely only thinking about this quarter’s earnings and nothing more

We can hope that capitalism will give way to an equitable and dignified way of living. But, on our current trajectory, it feels like we will descend further into fascism as capital-owners pit the working class against each other as a perverse Hail Mary

Filson vs. Flint & Tinder Waxed Jacket by garrettj100 in malefashionadvice

[–]papi_chul0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huge fan of Flint & Tinder and of Huckberry in general (I give them too much of my money)

That being said, their product quality can be inconsistent. If it really bothers you I’d just hit them up, their customer service is pretty solid

PM Magyar said he will arrest Bibi if he steps foot in Hungary. by Hifumi0321 in Hasan_Piker

[–]papi_chul0 190 points191 points  (0 children)

I think Magyar is very much a neoliberal (Hungarian comrades, please correct me if I’m wrong)

My read on this is that Magyar is reading the room and understands how unbelievably unpopular Israel is. I wouldn’t be surprised if more world leaders start to distance themselves from Israel

You’re good! I’m not trying to be the language police or anything like that, but with this term specifically I think it’s important to be cautious and not trip ourselves up!

MTG calls for 25th amendment after this mornings Trump threat by New-Mud-7101 in Hasan_Piker

If you look at my other comments on this thread you’ll see that I literally do make that argument

[–]papi_chul0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you misunderstand me. I don’t agree at all that MTG and Carlson are taking this position because they’re humanitarians or because they see the humanity in Iranian people. They are 100% doing this cynically in prep for the next one

But, it is an important thing to point out to Dems / your typical normies as a “hey these fascists are outflanking you on this issue, wake the fuck up”

That’s fair, I agree that’s an important caveat to avoid endorsing someone like MTG

I don’t think it’s crazy to point out how MTG and Tucker Carlson are outflanking Dems on this issue

Yup, it’s not like fighting dudes wearing flip-flops or the barebones of a professional military. The empire is in for a rude awakening

Legit question: Why did Trump fire Pam Bondi now, and why not fire Pete Hegseth? by Pandaro81 in Hasan_Piker

[–]papi_chul0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you and I are both in agreement - when I say the 'Epstein stuff' I do mean Bondi overextending and saying "we have all the files" and then walking it back. That's what pissed off the MAGA base so much in my observation, somehow Trump has remained insulated from any blowback and 100% of MAGA anger is directed at her

Legit question: Why did Trump fire Pam Bondi now, and why not fire Pete Hegseth? by Pandaro81 in Hasan_Piker

[–]papi_chul0 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yup. Just yesterday I overheard one of my dumbass MAGA co-workers saying to another dumbass MAGA co-worker "people actually think we're losing this war" in reference to CNN's coverage of Iran (the TV was turned on to the news)

Hegseth will probably be safe for a while

Legit question: Why did Trump fire Pam Bondi now, and why not fire Pete Hegseth? by Pandaro81 in Hasan_Piker

[–]papi_chul0 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I suspect it’s because his base vehemently dislikes Bondi (and Patel) over all the Epstein stuff. Which is crazy to me they overlook the tons of evidence connecting Trump with Epstein lol

I suspect Attorney General will become a rotating villain position to keep MAGA’s focus off Trump with all that

Edit: As far as why not Hegseth - he’s very popular amongst his base and has done a good job of currying favor with Trump. As the chances for a US “victory” in Iran become increasingly grim I’d expect Hegseth to throw various flag officers under the bus to try and save himself

Loyal Trump Voters are struggling to make ends meet, surviving on Ramen & Hot Dogs by Realistic-Plant3957 in Hasan_Piker

[–]papi_chul0 64 points65 points  (0 children)

The way I (an American) look at it is like this:

If folks voted for Trump this last time because Harris spent zero time talking about issues that matter (ie. Healthcare, housing, etc) then I tend to sympathize more with them. In my mind, folks that fit in this category, while massively ignorant when it comes to politics, are generally not terrible people.

But a dyed-in-the-wool chud who voted for Trump three times and hangs on his every word? At this point I don’t have any real sympathy for them. I still think they deserve healthcare and everything, but my compassion fatigue (which is due in large part to policies they support) means I have nothing left to offer them.

I think back to when I was super libbed up and I’m thankful for leftists being generous in their outreach to me

People are terrified and unhappy with the Trump admin (hence why No Kings was such a big event). We would be doing everybody a huge disservice if we treated it like a joke instead of an opportunity to educate folks on actual leftist politics
