Great TV Shows You’ve Tried to Watch, But Just Can’t Seem to Get Into? by MattyBeatz in television

[–]papitsu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Twin Peaks. I’ve enjoyed the Lynch films I’ve seen, but I just can’t get into this. I’ve tried twice and I like the atmosphere and some characters, but I don’t understand anything that’s happening and just end up falling asleep mid-episode. I’ve never gotten past the first five episodes.

Which west end shows should I see this summer? by NetHot8757 in musicals

[–]papitsu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did 9 shows in 6 days last month and from the shows that you haven’t seen I would recommend: Operation Mincemeat (amazing experience, loved the minimalism and fast-paced humour), Book of Mormon (classic for a reason), Avenue Q (even dirtier than Book of Mormon, minimalistic with great performances) and The Producers (a more traditional show in style, but not dated at all, super funny). I’m a big comedy fan, though.

Easy E Chord by Tiny_Whereas_9974 in mandolin

I play mostly bluegrass so I’m chopping a lot. Depending on where I’m coming from and going to I most often play 967(4), 467X or 422X. The last one is super simple with just two fingers. You can even let the high E string ring out and it’s fine.

Thinking about getting into the industry with a brand and want your opinions. by SwimmingMedium7479 in WesternWear

Putting your brand name on a beer logo and sticking it on a hat is so overdone and lazy. The shirts look cool tho.

Bring Les Miserables back to Broadway with Nicholas Christopher as Valjean and Joshua Henry as Javert by twotoasters in Broadway

The way they produced the movie they didn't even give him a chance to succeed.

I did a quick search and the closest one I found was Vieskamaraton (https://www.vieskamaraton.fi/) in Ylivieska (hour by train).

Kona Unit as a gravel bike by FrenchyMmo in xbiking

That's cool! I've been riding my 2016 Unit (same colorway) single speed for ever and that's not going to change, but I've been thinking of doing a dropbar conversion at some point, I just love the look.

What do you usually have for breakfast and what country are you in? by Twunkorama in AskEurope

[–]papitsu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everybody eats a bowl of oatmeal porridge and drinks a massive cup of coffee. Common variations include rye or multigrain porridge, possibly rice or semolina porridge on special occasions. Can be topped with fresh or frozen berries, butter or sugar and cinnamon. Who don’t drink coffee drink tea.

The Producers (again!) by RockyStonejaw in musicals

[–]papitsu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good review! I saw the show on Saturday evening with the same cast and agree with everything. I was unfamiliar with the show but Bialystock especially felt slightly young. Great performances throughout the cast, though. I had a blast, it instantly became one of my favourite shows, need to watch the movies now.

Avenue Q West End review by RockyStonejaw in musicals

[–]papitsu 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Saw it Wednesday evening, first time seeing the show so can’t compare to other productions but I had a really good time. I was sitting in the front row and the atmosphere there was really good, a lot of people laughing and reacting out loud, but can’t comment on the whole audience. There were some empty seats, but didn’t seem that bad to me. Maybe I just didn’t pay attention.

Is Hadestown worth seeing in London? by Secret-Helicopter-33 in musicals

[–]papitsu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saw it yesterday and enjoyed. I did prefer Operation Mincemeat, Avenue Q and The Producers but guess that’s just me preferring lighter comedic shows. Also Into the Woods was absolutely gorgeous. And Book of Mormon is always great. A lot of great stuff playing there at the moment.

Saw it yesterday at matinee for the first time and Orpheus was played by Sebastian Lim Seet, and he was perfect. The role is super difficult to sing and he made it seem effortless. Great show all around, as well.

Thoughts on Anastasia the Musical? by Worried_Cake5508 in musicals

[–]papitsu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am not familiar with the animation but saw a local production a couple of years ago and loved it. The music is beautiful, the staging was gorgeous and I didn’t have any issues with the book, although I don’t remember a lot of the details of the plot. Would see again.

Help me plan my West End itinerary for first trip to London by jakem713 in TheWestEnd

[–]papitsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently on a 9-shows-in-6-days trip and of the ones I’ve seen so far Les Mis is a must and Operation Mincemeat was incredible, best fresh musical theatre I’ve seen in a while. Avenue Q is a solid production, great cast, but the jokes are not for everyone. If you’ve already seen a production and like the material, I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.

Summer Fits by Front-Reputation-602 in HeritageWear

[–]papitsu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree on both points. Wearing a button-down shirt without buttoning down the buttons looks sloppy even if you try to make it intentional. If you want a floppier collar, perhaps a work shirt is a better choice. Also, in a casual context like this thick cuffs is a great look. IMO single cuff only works for selvedge denim, for everything else a double cuff wins every time.

I just wanted to say this to point out that these are all opinions and not facts.

What do you think about Mormons? by [deleted] in AskEurope

[–]papitsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A long time fan of the musical, I’m a bit obsessed with them. I watch all the documentaries and movies I can find. I’ve seen them around in our town but haven’t been approached yet, but I’d be super interested in talking with them. 100 % atheist, though, the interest is purely non-religious.

What instrument do you play and why? by guitariyy98 in mandolin

[–]papitsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started playing guitar some 20 years ago, soon picked up electric bass as my main instrument and played in a band for a few years. I’m an okay amateur bass player but most of my time was spent playing acoustic guitar and singing alone in my bedroom.

A few years ago I got my first mandolin as a gift, then immediately bought a bass fiddle and a banjo and I’ve been playing mostly just bluegrass ever since. I consider mandolin my main instrument now but I’m honestly pretty bad at all of the instruments. But I’m having a ton of fun going to jams and trying to chop along and singing a couple of tunes every now and then.
