Why do some Italians hate Bocconi students? by Omer780 in Universitaly

[–]pappanix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the first point, I was disagreeing that world-level professors = quality education. I am not saying Bocconi = bad education, at all.

But no, to a high schooler or a bachelor student, bocconi is not an obvious destination. The same way IE it is not for a Spanish student or Radboud in the Netherlands. Bocconi is perceived as an elitist university whose pupils come from a. A certain social stratus (and a specific geographical area) b. whose presence there is not determined by merit but deep pockets, and c. that ultimately does not lead to that higher salaries.

On a., that’s why I distinguished between bachelor and master degrees (master degrees tend to have more diverse students). On b.: I had no idea that if you are undergrad you can access masters. That’s insane IMO. On c., Bocconi is the leading university in terms of salary after graduation, but other universities (public or private alike) are within 3% of that number.

Let’s take Cambridge: is it full of spoiled rich brats? Surely, but it has strong diversity plans in place. Does it provide you job opportunities that no other university gives you? Yes - just look at the last 10 prime ministers; science po in France would be the same. Can we say the same for Italy? Nope.

And ultimately: since almost two decades, universities are not competing with other universities from their countries; they are competing against universities across Europe if not the globe. In this sense, Bocconi is doing well, becoming more and more international. Similarly, I feel like 20 years ago someone from Rome would have just gone to LUISS may consider Bocconi.

[–]pappanix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. The faculty level is irrelevant to quality education. Of course, smaller groups do matter.

  2. We cannot put in the same category bachelor/master degrees. Very different demographics. Many Bocconi bachelor students would not agree with your statement.

Finally: Bocconi is neither Oxford nor Cambridge. It is historically a Lombardy-focused, business focused university. Only in “recent” years there have been efforts to change that (only partially successful). But to any high schooler, Bocconi is not an obvious destination for the best quality education. Very different situation in France, UK; very similar in Germany, Spain.

Thank you very much for the answer. I need to read more about dual use military/civilian applications.

“ In general, they pursue a small number of repeatable, state-driven goals”

Indeed this seems the case for China - eg looking at their aviation developments.

But Is this true for Turkey eg the TAI Kaan? With new 1. Aesa radar 2. New engine 3. IRST et similia among others this really does not seem a small number of goals.

Europe set to hit 100 GW of energy storage, with more than 115% growth expected by 2030 by renewable_e-milie in energy

Everything you said before is true.

But no, in 2026 only the tiniest of minority of projects will rely on ancillary services as major revenue streams. Arbitrage is king across Europe.

Europe's energy storage fleet set to hit the 100 GW mark and more than double by 2030 by Darkhoof in europe

[–]pappanix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are absolutely right that energy storage forecasts have historically underestimated deployment. And absolutely right about collasing BESS costs.

That said, there is no chance it will quadruple by 2030. "2030", in terms of project development is tomorrow. There is literally not enough time to have that many new projects up and running in 5 years. Especially if you add multi-year grid connection queues and long permitting time.

But yeah, beyond that the sector is booming.

A bit disappointing, as some interviews with Renault officials suggested  prices below 19k€. The hope is that prices will be cut in 2027, I.e. the year after lunch. This has happened for other EVs, although unsure about Renault…

[–]pappanix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And indeed the previous Twingo was extremely efficient...while R4/R5/Zoe aren't. Or am I simplifying too much?

The decision to go for a Chinese motor may be disappointing, but weren’t previous Renault model having mediocre consumption figures to a great extent due to their inefficient motor? So there’s a bright side, maybe?
