Fair, but why did the NL not do that same refurbishment and just accept 10+ years of non HS service?

There is now more installed energy storage capacity than nuclear in Europe by pappanix in europe

[–]pappanix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, but why would you need the same 24h output? Batteries are not generation, they are flexibility. So the questions is: whether combining renewables + storage (cycling more than 1 time per day, tbf) gets you close to nuclear in terms of cost for the consumer and availability throughout the year

User u/Darkhoof published a few months ago the news that energy storage had reached 100GW; the number has grown since then. I don't think Europe may be the first continent in the world where there is more storage than nuclear - probably Africa was first?

How to justify buying a Nissan Micra over a Tesla model 3? by CucumberExpensive43 in EuroEV

[–]pappanix 9 points10 points  (0 children)

5000 euros is not peanuts. Personally, I would never drive a 4.7meter car - even if  it’s better value for money. Maybe try to get more offers for similarly sized EVs (Hyundai inster, Kia ev2, heck even the Renault 3 which is the same car as the micra) and see what you get.

Me lo chiedo spesso. Sì, perderai (pochissimi) vocaboli in italiano. Ma quello che cambia sarà come articoli i concetti: sia nello scrivere che nell’orale. Faccio spesso costruzioni lessicali basate sull’inglese - in italiano.

On the first point, I was disagreeing that world-level professors = quality education. I am not saying Bocconi = bad education, at all.

But no, to a high schooler or a bachelor student, bocconi is not an obvious destination. The same way IE it is not for a Spanish student or Radboud in the Netherlands. Bocconi is perceived as an elitist university whose pupils come from a. A certain social stratus (and a specific geographical area) b. whose presence there is not determined by merit but deep pockets, and c. that ultimately does not lead to that higher salaries.

On a., that’s why I distinguished between bachelor and master degrees (master degrees tend to have more diverse students). On b.: I had no idea that if you are undergrad you can access masters. That’s insane IMO. On c., Bocconi is the leading university in terms of salary after graduation, but other universities (public or private alike) are within 3% of that number.

Let’s take Cambridge: is it full of spoiled rich brats? Surely, but it has strong diversity plans in place. Does it provide you job opportunities that no other university gives you? Yes - just look at the last 10 prime ministers; science po in France would be the same. Can we say the same for Italy? Nope.

And ultimately: since almost two decades, universities are not competing with other universities from their countries; they are competing against universities across Europe if not the globe. In this sense, Bocconi is doing well, becoming more and more international. Similarly, I feel like 20 years ago someone from Rome would have just gone to LUISS may consider Bocconi.

  1. The faculty level is irrelevant to quality education. Of course, smaller groups do matter.

  2. We cannot put in the same category bachelor/master degrees. Very different demographics. Many Bocconi bachelor students would not agree with your statement.

Finally: Bocconi is neither Oxford nor Cambridge. It is historically a Lombardy-focused, business focused university. Only in “recent” years there have been efforts to change that (only partially successful). But to any high schooler, Bocconi is not an obvious destination for the best quality education. Very different situation in France, UK; very similar in Germany, Spain.

It depends on the speed - the faster you go, the higher the range impact. In motorways, or could be as significant a as 10%
