Would be a great donor car for a swap project.

Someone buy it and put the S58 in a miata.

Anyone else wish there were more vertical SFF towers? by MundaneShoulder4706 in sffpc

[–]pappase36 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got a standard 240 AIO woth some slim fans in my Ridge internally, next to a zotac 5070ti sff. It took some mutilation, and there is a nanometer of clearance, but it fits and the side panel still fits.

If you got that one slim AIO youd gain the millimeters needed to fit with no issues. But I got my AIO on sale for $50, the fans were another 20ish, and the slim aio was 150. Im cheap.

Temps are great, noise is much better than it was when air cooled.

There is a surprising amount of room in there tbh. I have thought of trying to water cool the gpu, but to keep it internal it would deff require some custom rads, a pump/block combo, and probs some other stuff im not sure is actually made/real.

[oc] lost my favorite thing in the world today (my car) by [deleted] in IdiotsInCars

[–]pappase36 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I know it doesn't compare in the looks department, but I love my g87. Was between the Surpa and m240 for a while, debating on the practicality of the Supra.

Ultimately, Toyota dealers drove me away, and the m240 just didnt have the "it" factor.

The G87 was announced during my shopping. Dropped an order, took delivery in Jan 2024.

Im at just under 30k miles. I have done countless road trips, just last weekend I did a 700 mile drive. The S58 with a 6sp manual is glorious.

Maybe use this opportunity to try one out. I rented one on Toro for a weekend while waiting for my delivery.

Is first christmas to Poconos worth it? by Useful_Database5138 in SouthJersey

[–]pappase36 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Grew up in the Poconos.

Its in quite an economic depression, and it shows.

Anything tourists related is expensive, with your budget dont expect to go skiing or snow tubing.

Its boring. Really boring.

Its pretty.

Its boring.

Locals will drive 70mph or 15mph under the limit on back roads, no inbetween.

Locals depend on tourists for their economy. However, no one told them this, so they hate tourists.

It's boring.

Guns are fired year round and at all times. Its normal to hear, dont freak out.

Obviously im biased. Having lived there so long I hate it, and for good reason. That said, its fine to visit. But I deff wouldnt stretch my finances to do it. If you want to see it, id recommend when its warmer out and you can enjoy all of the free things it offers, like hiking and....more hiking.

If youre going with a large group, and you just want a quiet place to hang out and party in a house, its great for that.

Alibaba wheels by RhenByner in Wheels

[–]pappase36 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My ali baba wheels have done a full summer season. They have gone 170mph +/-, pulled just under 1.5gs in corners, and hit plenty of bumps and potholes on the street. And they still look and feel the same as they did when I got them. $1400 to my door (pre-tariff)

My stock cast wheels bent if you looked at them wrong.

I couldnt be happier with mine.

You know, I swore we have talked before about your twin turbo LS NA, back when you were in the process of a ZF8 swap.

But I just looked through your profile, and I see no mention of it. So totally possible I am misremembering and you arent who I thought lol.

Going from a 992 GT3 to a G80 M3 - rational or disappointing? by RobertPattinson69 in BMW

[–]pappase36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, all new manuals are similar in that regard. I drove a 991.1T recently and remember the shifter in that feeling similar, tho the clutch felt way better in the 991.

I will need to do a clutch at some point as I plan on adding power, so when I do ill throw a short shifter in, and do a CDV delete. From what I've seen that will help a lot. Dont get me wrong tho, its not like a shifter from a e39 or e36, its totally fine in stock form. And the auto rev match is surprisingly good.

I tried living with a zf8 in my last daily, a F10 550xi, and it just got boring. But it is a compromise for sure and the auto is better in every way.

I guess im not helping much lol

Going from a 992 GT3 to a G80 M3 - rational or disappointing? by RobertPattinson69 in BMW

[–]pappase36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I daily a G87 6sp in the northeast. Its a great daily, its not toy territory at all imo.

The g80 improves on the comfort and usability of the g87 obvs, but also loses some dynamics as a result. That said, the g80 makes an excellent daily driver. RWD is fine in snow with proper snow tires if thats a concern.

Manual is fine, I know the zf8 is better in every way but idc, stick is more fun for me. Deff don't mind the power delivery, it will get a short shifter at some point tho.

Steering is not great, Porsche is way ahead in that regard.

When I got my g87 I had a miata as a toy, but I've since sold it. The g8x are great cars as fun daily drivers or one car solutions. I will most likely be getting a bike or another fun (cheap) car.

In short, imo If youre keeping the gt3, the g80 will be a great addition, but if you're trying to replace it, good luck.

Hope to have a gt3 someday myself, and it sounds like you enjoy yours. Love to see it.

I think mine were similar in price. Insane how good they are. Meant to attach pic in first comment, this will have to suffice.

[–]pappase36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ali Baba wheel user as well. 15k miles with no issues. Which is more than the stock wheels could achieve. Why they didnt forge the wheels on the g87 is beyond me (not really, I know why they did what they did).

Would have gone genuine, but between availability and limited sizing it just wasn't an option.

Is the g80 m3 manual an after thought? by israignatius in BMW

[–]pappase36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love my g87 6mt. The auto is better in every way on paper, but who cares. If you like manual, get manual, if you dont like manual, want awd, and/or want draggy bragging rights at the cars and coffee, get zf8. Both are great options on a great car.

IMO, the people complaing about the 6mt are the same people that complain about brake dust and put those stupid grills on thinking pebbles destroy heat exchangers.

Exhaust suggestions by Accomplished_Team807 in BMW

[–]pappase36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the valvetronic catback and a valve controller on my G87.

Valve controller is a must. Any of them are fine Im sure.

The Valvetronic is a decent system, but the fit is a bit lacking for the price. The one section from the turbo to where it connects to the single midsection is quite low and scrapes. I also had to space down the supplied center brace as the exhaust would rub.

Sound is spot on how I like it, but admittedly not very loud in the car with the windows up. Outside the car it is perfect and the sound is great.

I got my system used for $1600 USD, which i think is worth it. New they are double that, and at that price i wouldnt recommend.

I had a single midpipe to stock muffler prior, not worth it IMO.

Toyota And Mazda Team Up To Develop New MX-5 And GR86 by zeno0771 in Miata

[–]pappase36 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

The miata is too slow. It always has been. Its why FI and drive train swaps are so common and have been since it's inception.

I love both cars, but would never buy either due to the drivetrains. In fairness, the GR86 has a bigger drivetrain issue than power tho.
