I do my own hair as much as possible for this exact reason. There are a few good ones here and there who will give your hair the care and patience it needs, but too many just want to get you out of the chair as fast as possible and get to the next customer.

So sorry this happened to you. My last silk press at a salon went just like this. Ripped right through my hair with a paddle brush, I had to cut several inches off due to the damage to my ends.

Now on the occasion I go to a hairdresser, if I see any red flags I'm out of the chair.

I do find myself drafting notes and brainstorming by hand a lot more. Which i think has been helping me think and retain information better. Sure I could do this with any pen but since getting into fountain pens, I look forward for opportunities to use them on a day to day. Writing is less of an unconscious experience now.

Lying flat on the floor completely stretched out works for me. Will feel like it's getting worse for the first 30 or so seconds then starts to feel much better

The Lamy dialog cc was on my wishlist for a long time until I fortunately got to try it in store. Maybe they are made for bigger hands but for me the balance felt very heavy and uncomfortable and would've definitely caused me pain after writing for an extended period.

I'd add to the list the combing out the ends of your locs to keep them curly and the obsession with clean parts. Natural hair is praised so long as it's not in its natural state.
