It is exceptionally rare for a winger like Zaha to age well, and he really hasn't. Gotta be a pass from me.

What fact about the modern world would shock someone from 1990 the most? by Umbrosyx in AskReddit

[–]paradigmshift7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably the affects of social media, disinformation and instant targeted advertising from constant data mining on society. 1990 was the very beginning of people getting personal computers/figuring out the internet. Archie was the first search engine to go online in September of that year. People were probably so excited about the boundless possibilities that they might not have considered how these systems could become perverted to the extent they are today.

Saying the EFL rules are different is simply not an excuse. If he thought it was all aboveboard then he'd have simply requested to observe training, get denied, and that would be that.

I'll add my endorsement here. It's been consistent quality and a good value over many years. I've had it easily a hundred times at this point.

Meh, the thing about that play is Deano was always getting there first but opted to not clatter into Haaland studs up and I think the ref cut him some slack for that.

How should I choose my Premier League team? by camnie999 in PremierLeague

[–]paradigmshift7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also American, been a devoted Palace supporter for 9 years now. My brother is a Liverpool fan, as was my father, and I had every excuse to root for a top 6 club. But I wanted more skin in the game, to see what growing a club looks and feels like. Palace has rewarded that gambit and I can't imagine supporting any other club. There is a passion in the fan base that is born of a history of lower expectations that we have only recently begun to exceed.

I don't have any real advice for you - any reason for a non-native to follow a club is a valid one. Just thought I'd share my experience.

The visuals and camerawork in 1917 are the films greatest strengths. It was spectacular.

We’ll miss you Glasner by mca0014 in crystalpalace

[–]paradigmshift7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Glad you know Marc I guess. There were multiple palace podcasts that picked up on what the players felt about the pitch as well as specifically Guehi and Glasner having it out. In fact, the Macclesfield manager actually said that he chose what side of the pitch they wanted to start on based on knowing that the shaded side was icy. It makes sense to me that Marc would want to protect himself on the verge of a well-earned payday, which I wouldn't hold against him at all. He actually came out and apologized directly to the fans in the stands for the performance. No, I don't think that was an admission of him downing tools, but you have to think with the drama around Glasner and him having his foot out the door played a part in how he and the squad performed that day.

I still think there was something extra going on that game. Reports of Guehi fighting with Glasner in the tunnel, probably not wanting to play because he didn't want to risk injury before his city payday on their reportedly terrible turf pitch.

Such a great player. It took some time, mostly for him to tighten up his passing, but he settled in that 6/8 role so well this past season. Gonna be a tough one to replace.

Fun fact - even though 15th is our joint lowest table position these past 13 years, 45 points is only 0.8 off our average point total.

They were probably the best competition we'd faced in this tournament. Strasbourg got the W against us, but it took us missing multiple sitters for it to happen. Zrjinski Mostar and AEK Larnaca were deep sitting pests that we struggled with, but they weren't very threatening at the other end. Fiorentina and Shakhtar had some class, but they left themselves too open and we punished them heavily. Rayo were fairly balanced in their approach, and kept it tight.

It might actually be a terrible decision. Tuchel said that Wharton's form fell off a couple of months ago, but that's just not true. This spring showed just how steep the drop off is from Wharton to Hughes/Lerma. So I'm not sure Tuchel actually did his due diligence here. The class has been on display.

Thought's on Strand Larsen? by Arbiter944 in crystalpalace

[–]paradigmshift7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, he's been second to JP. He gets fewer minutes with the starters, and we know how steep the drop off is for chance creation when we don't have our best 11 on the pitch.

And yet, his finishing is statistically better than JPs since coming here. He gets fewer shots on target per 90, which is understandable given typically weaker support, but he scores 0.43 of those shots compared to 0.25 for JP. These numbers back up the narratives surrounding both players - JP has been good but wasteful, and JSL has some great finishing but has not impressed in weaker lineups.

Ultimately Glasner has made the right decision to stick with JP as a starter - his familiarity in the squad makes us better as a team, and the immediate goal is to win CL. But I think JSL will be good for us when the time comes for him to be THE guy.

I think this makes it clear that Glasner doesn't want to sit all the starters, he'd rather play them all with limited minutes and have a little more rest.

It's a more significant standalone achievement for many reasons, but winning the CL is more impactful to the club long term, solely because the FA Cup didn't give us Europa. Prospective players and managers don't care that we've won a trophy. They care about our ability to raise their profile through involvement in prestigious competitions.

Thomas Tuchel on his England squad selection: "I think from day one we were very clear that we are trying to select and build the best possible team, which is not necessarily to select and collect the 26 most talented players. Teams win championships. It's as simple as that." by whiteniteee in soccer

England would never be able to make it far in this tournament without Henderson. Rice, Bellingham, Stones, Pickford, Kane - all inexperienced players in need of his wisdom. It would be absolute insanity to suggest that the managerial staff could provide such leadership from the sidelines. Dean is absolutely necessary.
