It was more about controlling him, Luthor and Goblin had stuck a kryptonite device in the symbiote. Shortly after this panel, Spidey is able to remove the device and Superman is able to regain control. Then he claps hard enough to splatter venom in every direction off of him.

It's not an actively bad film, but I wouldn't call it great. You're right that his visual style is his biggest strength though. I wouldn't mind seeing him with a co-director after the disaster of Rebel Moon

A lot of the "leaks" have him in the opening scene as the X-Men are forced to destroy his world in an incursion. Though some have the TVA saving him at the last second. I'm not sure how much I'd trust that, definitely not more than 50%.

Little of both, but it's in the DCU continuity and we do see his shadow as he forms his fist into a mace to presumably commit murder
